I love this old Western/Surf cult classic. This is a version I threw together for one of my guitar students.

This is very good, but I think I've never heard it before. The only thing I think you could add is maybe a bass.

Nice drum arrangement you did there too, it sounds nice and the patterns were good choices.

This is from The Shadows, right? I have to hear more from them.

I bet that your students are learning fast, you seem like a nice teacher.  :)

a very good re-work of something that has been flogged to death.

Solid performance.

Thanks, everyone. I normally wouldn't have taken the time to work this piece up as a recording, but one of my students is doing it for his school talent show, and needed something to practice with during the week.

When you're twelve years old, even something like this is new to you.

One question, though. Does original work mean material that is originally composed, or performed? I see a lot of "covers" being posted, including this one.

Just wondering.

Guess it depends on what context you're referring to. Typically original work is a term used in copyright law to mean an original music composition. That is: original music and lyrics. A cover would never be considered an original work, just a fresh performance.

In the rules, by original I meant made by the person who uploads it. It doesn't necessarily has to be new stuff, covers are alright. Maybe original isn't the best word.

Farmjazz,

I know that I've heard this song before but couldn't have 'named that tune'.  So, you made me look... and there is a video on YouTube of The Shadows playing 'Apache'. Interesting that a pre-Beatles '60's band in England turned out a West coast surfing classic.

Great job on your version and I love the clean guitar playing... doesn't need to hide behind a wall of distortion.  Had a blast playing along this afternoon, so here it is with bass. (Squire P-Bass direct-in to the BR)

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

Sounds good, Hooper! You're getting the vibe on this one. Music is an exaggerated art form, and on something like this, I put one foot on the scorching hot desert sand, and one foot in the high tide at Huntington Beach. I find that my hands will follow where I put my brain.

I had to use headphones to hear the bass very well, though. Too low in the mix for my taste. I like the bass to be a little more present. I'm always asking the bass player in my stringband, (standup bass), to turn up enough so the light fixtures in the room rattle a little bit. That's my scientific level meter on the gig. Seems to work.

The inserted MP3 player never seems to get to the end of the song. Is there some trick to it, or is it meant to just give you a taste before deciding to download the file?

Incidentally, I would be remiss to not thank 64Guitars for finding the Win98 OS driver that makes all this possible. Thank you, sir - everything works great and I'm using all the various programs to edit and move my files around.
