AcousticSimmie

Hi
My first post and lovin my BR and this site.  Had my BR a couple of months now and getting to grips with the recordings and hopefully will post a song soon.
I am looking for any advice regarding getting the best quality vocals recorded.  The recordings I have done sound grainy, husky, fuzzy, it may be just my voice or too close to the in-built mic etc.  if anyone has any tips to get a better quality recording this would help me greatly.
Also advice on the best way to connect / set up a Shure58 mic to the BR may give me an option to try.

Only advice I can give is watch the MBR and it if says " OVER" stand back or turn the volume down.

The in-built MIC should provide near-perfect vocal recordings. Listen to the post your work section for examples of the many vocals being captured on here. Getting the distance right is important, as is experimenting with the different effects. You also have to be careful not to squeeze the casing, as the mic will pick up the cracking and pops of the plastic. Don't get disheartened... we all come through the learning curve!

Welcome aboard!

Thanks very much for replying, I will have another go at the vocals.

Lookin forward to a long relationship with my BR and the forum.

Welcome Simmie !!

Re vocal recording: I'm assuming it's the microBR you've got. Best option is to hold it in your hand and finding the right distance to hold it. I usually hold it from a 10-20cm away and tilting it ~45 degrees and singing past it to avoid breating noice. Depending on the power of your voice you may want to adjust the input gain.

Welcome to Funworld!!

Yes, condenser mics are really tough to get used to at first, but once you get the hang of them, they are the best and the sound quality is awesome!

I hope you post some music!

See you around!

late to the party but for what its worth here is what ive been doing lately when recording my vocals.

i use fornylon setting which is no5 in the onboard mic effects. with effect displayed i hit edit, turn on the NS (noise suppression i assume) then i change delay from single to tap. i then record to two tracks usually arming tracks 3 and 4 and pan both tracks full left and right. although there is only one mic the tap delay gives a stereo effect with the echo bouncing round the stereo spectrum.

and i hold mbr in my hand at about 4 or 5 inches from my mouth at a 45 degree angle so that i sing across the mic to avoid popping which can happen when singing directly into the mic, hope that is of some help.

oh another thing you can do is reduce the volume of the music you are singing over so you can hear yourself cleary and avoid peaking as it is hard to see the mbr and the dreaded "over" message. then when mastering or bouncing you can bring the music back up.
