A Frustrated Newbie!!!

I have the instructions beside me.............I am trying to record.....my problem....well theres loads but I'll come back to them....

THe initial ones..............

Track 1 recorded clean guitar.  Was fine.
Track 2.  Vocals........  I have selected the MIC......when I record it without the guitar it was audible........but not great volume.  I did change the sensitivity and it was a little better.

When recording guitar and vocals, the vocals were drowned out. 

I cant get the effects switched off unless I also switch off the preamp (I think it is)

Is there a tutorial somewhere?? 

Also......I bought some new memory cards.................all seemed fine for a while then Card Error and more card errors!!!! 

Just want some basic recording then work up from there.

I'm just going out of the door to work but I'll have a shot at one question.  I had card error problems and then I realised that I hadn't initialised the card.  If you don't initialise the card then it works a little bit but then says card full or something like that.  So reinitialise the card (remembering that it will wipe the card memory) and start again would be my advice.

Track 1, did you use the 1/4 jack or the on board mic?

when Mic is selected did you used the input level dial on the right side of the BR (just above the 1/4 input jack)

Track 1 1/4 inch jack

Track 2 Mic, but I left the jack plugged in

And I had the input level up full for both.

I agree that you should first save your data and initialize the card. (Page 115)

You need to adjust your track levels, because the guitar will probably drown out the vox at first whack. Turn down the track level of your guitar. I just checked Section 1, and I can't believe that there are absolutely no instructions for that. Just hit a TR1, TR2, TR3 or TR4 button and scroll with the cursor buttons to get to that screen.

Track level will fix you - Guaranteed!!

The FX for the guitars usually have a lot of boost where as the MIC does not.
It doesn't really matter because you will be setting the individual playback volumes during your mix for playbacks.
Just be sure it doesn't "over" the signal (Distort) during recording and you'll be fine.
During a mix/playback I'll often have the guitars at 70 or 80 and the vox at 105 or even 110 to get a pleasing balance.

I put it away for a day or 2.  I'm not the most patient with technology.  I am happy to admit.

I'll leave it till tomorrow and have another go.  Whats the best way to record acoustic guitar??

I personally prefer using the mic on the mbr instead of the 1/4 input. Bluesberry offered a suggestion that really helped. He said to point the mic at the 12th fret, leaving it 8 inches away from the acoustic for best results. I really like the tone when doing it that way.

Dunno what I'm doing wrong.  The levels of the mic seem really low.  I have the level turned up to 100
