Hey

Not had a chance to try one of these, and was swithering between the BR600 and the Micro.  Decided on the Micro, as I think the cards are better.

I was using a Tascam Multitracker which was OK.

Whats the quality like???  Its just for getting ideas down, ideally with drums.......  Which the Tascam didnt do.

I will move onto PC recording at some point but still want something on the go.

Any tips for a newbie would be much appreciated!!!!

I had a Zoom handheld one a couple of years ago, but getting cards for it was a pain, and getting ones that worked was even worse!!!

Are the cards commonly available????

Cheers

Hi Del

I'm sure you won't regret your decision! The micro is a great little device. You should stock up on some 1GB SD card tho'. They are still quite easy to get hold of but getting harder every day. There are lots of advice to find here on various topics regarding what to use with the mbr.

If you listen to the posts on the post-your-work thread, I think you'll find that the quality of what this little box can produce is overwhelming. Many of us bought it "just to get some ideas down" but some of the results are so close to studio-quality that some WILL be fooled.

Just now on Friday my boss came to me and asked "Where can I order Jemima's Kite" (I had forgotten my JK cd in a company car) He had listened to it wanting to order more of their music.  All their music is recorded on the MBR .

Thanks.  My one concern was card compatability.  That was a real issue with my Zoom machine.  IT only supported cards up to 128mb.  Cards were easy to get, but not that small!!!  So it became a pain.

Just concerned this would be the same................

Thanks for that.  Looking forward to getting started with it.

I would totally reinforce what Geir has said in relation to the quality of recording you can obtain with the BR. When I read about it orginally it was stated that it could be used as a sketchpad for song ideas etc, but it is much more than that, and when you get to grips with the mastering you will amazed at the finsihed product that can be produced. I often thought that I would eventually start using Cubase or something similar, but there really is no need once you get to grips with the BR.
All in all, it is an amazing device, and I doubt you will have any regrets over buying one.

as for progessing onto the pc, i used to do all my recordings on my pc, now its all done on the micro br, and pc is used only for editing in cool pro edit. when i say editing its just for fade in out. this can be done on the mbr but i prefer doing it where i can see the wav file.

I'm pretty surprised at what you guys are saying about PC recording.  I just presumed that was the way to upgrade!!!.

Ironically, my best ever recordings were made on my wee old Zoom thing.  Mostly acoustic.

Looking forward to getting it.  One more sleep!!!!!    ;D

I think the freedom that you get with the portability of the mbr is one of the things I love the most. AND that it gives great quality recordings AND that the effects are really good AND that the built-in microphone is REALLY REALLY good AND .....

What they said plus ... chicks think they are really cool !

You are going to have to spend a few more $$ though.  Splash out on a $5 sony condenser mic on ebay.  Another must-have to go with the MBR.
