If that was a windup I am going to throw all my toys out of the pram .... just spent 15 mins with bits of paper covered in scalar scrawlings trying to work out what he meant.....

Changing the subject. Ahem...

Somebody might find this funny or interesting.  At the beginning of my songwriting-arranging-recording all-nighter, and before I ever knew what I would write about, I recorded this on Saturday afternoon.

Does this resemble anyone else's songwriting process?

Sorry guys, I screwed up (that is why you shouldn't drink beer on a weeknight), what I meant to say was not Dmin but Fmaj, and for diminished 7th I should have said major 7th, I was thinking it one way and typed it the other way around.  If this is in the key of Fmaj, does that work, did we already answer this?  So the possible chords would be (by the intervals) 1.Fmaj, 2.Gmin, 3.Amin, 4. Bbmaj, 5.Cmaj, 6.Dmin, 7.Emaj,   that makes more sense doesn't it, which makes this the key of Fmaj, I think, or Dmin, whichever you emphasize.

Nice song Ted, it sounds like ORH on vocals and kinda sounds like the chord pattern I came up with in my attempt.

LOL!

I do that too, not as successfully as ORH of course.

BB, that makes more sense ... I think. You had me worried there!!!

If I could do what you did, I'd be alot better off. I'm way more modular when it comes to songwriting. It may be because you were in bands and played out. I've just jammed with friends and played to music.

I usually start with a verse phrase and go from there. I have even created music from two different songs before. For the challenge, I was playing with delay and got a cool four pulse decay that I was really happy with. Then after doubletracking it, the guitars sounded like a slapback, which sucked. If I wasn't trying to stay within the implied timeframe (This forum is so flashpan!), I might have shelved it and tried to get more out of it later. I then patched together a bunch of clips to make a song.

I would rather just be able to play through to the end sometimes... I do love doubletracking vocals and guitars, though!!

Yes, except as edited above.

No Ted, I was trying to understand this in my usual bull headed way.  Sorry for any misunderstanding, perceived yanking , or otherwise bull-headed goings on.  Edim hu? have we got the final word on this?  Thanks.

Edim: Yep, that's my final word for the E-rooted chord in the key of F.

I thought it was very funny how you were yanking my chain.  It's almost disappointing that you weren't.

??? See? Now that's why I always try to play in the key of "Ah, that sounds good".

Reading the above posts was akin to listening to the adults in the Peanuts talk...

Wah-wah-wah wah -wah  :)
