Y'know, when I was first trying ideas, I kept wanting to do E maj.  I'd try the same idea with E min, and wouldn't like it as much.  In fact, I had a preexisting idea that would have worked with E maj, but E min made me come up with something entirely new--so I'm happy for that.  No DOH is necessary.

So, that would have put the song in Am not C?

The keys Am and C contain all of the same notes, it's a matter of what chord is emphasized.  The chord E maj contains a G# note, which makes neither in Am or C.  It would be one of those not-in-the-key chords that adds tension to a song that otherwise adheres to a specific key.

I never knew what to call these chords, so in order to make myself seem smart, you inspired me to finally look it up:

Not Amin, the key of Amin would still has a Emin.  Having an Emaj  would put the song as Dmin possibly (without having the root chord to play).  What key did you have in mind Saij for this challenge?  It certainly worked with Emin.

***Ted posted his reply before I finished typing mine, so mine may be redundant or even false, or maybe even right, I'm not 100% sure.***

Actually a Emaj would make it possible to play "natural" or harmonic  minor or whatever it is called in English. Playing 5+ 7maj on the way up and 7th 5+ on the way down as far as I recall (didn't I post this before ??? )

I think Tafka posted a link to various scales recently
