Haven't been around much lately. Very busy at work, and in my studio. Both good things, I guess. Well, I finished the second of my 80's tunes that I've been working on for a collection. I took this Fine Young Cannibals song, and had my way with it. I've never played a Latin salsa type thing before, so it was a learning experience. I obviously have much to learn. It was fun putting together. Hope you get a kick out of it... or maybe you'll just want to kick me.

There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

I'm not sure..... I love the FYC and this is a different take on it. I love the original so much, it's hard to get to grips with a Latinish version! But you did a great job on the production and instrumentation, I like the brass a lot. Perhaps some of the percussion is a little intrusive but this is a very well put together track. The vox and harmonies are very nicely done. So on balance, I get a kick out of it!

Cheers,

Nigel

Ok ... bend over so I can get a good shot in  ;D

I HATE the 80's with a passion, in fact all popular music since Glam should be dumped in a bottomless pit and forgotten about!!!!

Having said that, I know every word of this so it cant be that bad a song I guess, and I really like what you did with it. What did you use, Synth or VSTi? Great production too.

Thanks, Nigel. I appreciate it. I like the original as well. The idea just came to mind listening to it. Not sure how effective it is, but I got a few good laughs out of it, at least. LOL!

Ouch! That kick hurts, Steve. LOL! I guess one has to be picky about songs from that era. I like some, others not so much. Only the trumpets are on a synth; my Motif ES, using a breath controller. The piano is a Yamaha P-80 digital piano, the acoustic is an acoustic, and the bass is a bass. All the percussion is played on my Roland V-drums. Thanks for the kind words.

Based upon some comments I've gotten, it will probably get one more mixing and mastering before I call it done... as if that will help. LOL!

I like it!!!!!!!!!

The Latin feel is very authentic!!!!

A different and well done take on this tune,

If I forget about how the FYC version sounds, I find this really enjoyable!!!!!
This is a tune in it's own right!

The FYC version was the sound of my childhood.....

Great Job Frank!

I like the fyc version, but it probably would have been folly to try to sound like them.

This is a clever, unique (avante garde Latino?), big, solid production and I like it. ;D  I like the percussion a lot.

Well done.
Let it be known, there is a fountain, that was not made, by the hands of men.

Thanks everyone, for the kind comments! I've done a number of covers. Sometimes I've tried to copy the original, and sometimes I'll completely change the style (even if I really like the original). They are both good learning experiences. I don't really know how Latin came to mind, but I knew I wanted to rearrange it, and Latin is what I heard. Go figure...
