Backup! Backup! Backup!

I'm actually thinking of getting a USB flash drive memory stick thingy, and backing everything up to that. This way, I don't need to fill up my hard drive with megabytes of song data.

I've actually begun the rebuilding process of the incomplete songs that were lost. What a monumental task this is proving to be. I started with a song that was already posted here once, The Harder the Fall, as I was working on remixing and remastering that one. In the process, I've improved this song in ways I never imagined originally.  I should have this one done and in the can by the end of the week. Recreating the drum track was that hardest part, as most of that was original programming, and not preset patterns. Each kick, each snare hit, each hi-hat note, etc. have all been lovingly re-programmed, note by excruciating note. And wait until you hear the guitar sounds on this version.

BTW, check out the video for "Life, Unfulfilled" at YouTube...

That's a great way of looking at it, Bob! Would Eric Clapton wobble one bit if he lost some footage? No way! I'm sure it would be "No sweat - I'll just record it again..."

Oh, loved the You Tube Video!

Thanks, Mark. I'll probably end up doing videos for all of my songs. Being unemployed, I seem to have a lot of extra time to work on creative things while I wait for my training classes to begin.

Quote from: launched on August 17, 2009, 04:33:35 PMTed has made reference to a data sync program in tutorials. Maybe check that out, as it only updates the files that have been changed. Sync Toy and Robocopy(Command line) would work well, too.

Handy Backup is what I use for my backing up.  I'm now using two SD cards, so I created a different backup profile for each card.  This prevents SONG000x.BR0 from card A from overwriting the backup of SONG000x.BR0 from card B.

Quote from: Geir on August 17, 2009, 04:04:08 PMWell I've begun to delete now. I am now copying a finished song-folder "SONG000x.BR0" to the PC and renaming it to "Songname - SONG000x.BR0"

That's a good convention for archiving finished songs.  I may take that up.

But to prevent disasters with the songs in progress, something like Handy Backup makes it really quick and easy to backup your data whenever you connect the Micro BR to your computer for any reason.  I connect, and in about three clicks my card is backing up.  It usually takes less than two minutes.

Here's the info on Handy Backup referred to by launched:

I bet I have the most under-utilized BR on the forum. getting wiped out wouldn't change my day one bit. For some of you guys  I could see this as being a traumatic experience.

I had a neighbor in my campground, never talked to him, but I could always hear him working on his place for 2 years. We had an ice storm, a very large tree smashed his place, and I never saw the guy again. His spirit was broken.

That's material for a song.

Speaking of backups again, let's not forget the DUMB principle.
