I have a laundry list of "nevers" being broken tonight.

1. I have never tried one of these challenges
2. I have never played beyond the 12th fret (that's a toughy)
3. I have never heard this song before, but loved the backer
4. I have never posted anything where I have played lead before. (48 did for me once)

Take it for what its worth, I'm still a really new musician, so there are more bum notes than I cared to post. This was all on the second take, I don't know any other way. Those high frets are definitely difficult!

**EDIT**

I have received so much from this forum and all you terrific people that I want to give back badly. For a bunch of strangers, This place sure has a family feel.

When I joined here, my goal was to learn to play Guitar, Now I want to impact another life as mine has been impacted here.

Thank you all!

Dude - I'm really impressed that you took the plunge on all those nevers!!!!

Your on the right path.  In that you did not know the song, you had a blank canvas to start with, and you did a great job!  Had I not known what the backer was I would would  have just dug in to your sound / groove with pure enjoyment. Even knowing the backer, after 20 seconds I just fell in to your playing - well done.

Keep up that " can do " attitude.

Thanks Justin,
I think it was an advantage not knowing the song. When I know the originals, I never try the challenges. I read saijinns thread, I saw "shine on" and "you crazy Diamond" spread over a couple posts. I thought for sure it was a Neil Diamond song LOL. It took me 20 minutes just to find out it was Pink Floyd. Then I finally found out it was in G minor. I didn't want to try play like 48 or BB (which obviously isn't a problem).

Justin is right.

Mighty impressed that you took on this challenge.

You did a couple of things that I think are essential when playing lead... Your timing was pretty good and you followed the changes well.

Just keep challenging yourself like this and you'll do really well. Everything else will fall into place.

Great job!

Geir

Really good playing Tony!!!

Like Saijinn said, timing and following the song is really good, and the most important! But you've added more than that! You created a mood with your playing that fit's the song well!!

Good work !!

Oh well ........

Well done Tony, you pushed yourself here and you did really well. The tone is nice and although there may be a few glitches, they don't stand out. The whole thing works, I've been listening while I was working and nothing made me jump (as in, oops there's a bum note), it all flows nicely. It's interesting that if you didn't know the song there are several places where you use similar note patterns to Dave Gilmour, so you are definitely heading in the right direction!

So a big accomplishment - you carried this off well. You stretched yourself but you didn't overstretch yourself. That is also a good thing. Keep 'em coming!

Cheers,

Nigel

Congratulations on your first of many posts 8) ;)
You are really getting to gripes with your Phrasing and Timing
I know how hard you've been working :D
Well Done!

You really dont know the song? You have to check it out man, a true classic and a fine example of guitar as it should be done!!

Great take on it regardless, and well done for jumping right in at the deep end. Nice one.

Good one Tony, you are coming along fine now.  Nice way to follow the changes, you are listening along while playing.  Getting some bends in there, nice.  Your focus on timing is paying off.  Great job, keep on doing these backers, it will get better and better, that is my experience.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places
