Thanks Mark!

Thanks Nigel! The more I listen to it the more I like the level of the bass, what I'm not crazy about is the lead guitar and the piano, again, it's not finished so I'll mess around with it some more. I've been thinking about lengthening it; after the bass solo/piano part maybe bring back in the other guitars, perhaps even in a different key. I'll mess around and see what I come up with.

Very nice and mellow tune - can almost hear some rain falling at the end!!  Great "good bye" type song - thoughtfully played piece - nice original work!!

Holy shit, Erik, this is fucking beautiful.  I knew from the very first strum that I would love this song.  I especially like the fact that you added bass, since you don't normally do that.  Sweet, melodic bassline!  I don't think the bass is too loud at all.  Could be louder even, if you ask me.  But you know how I like my bass! ;D  The song itself is just melodic and beautiful.  Simple in a very good way.  I really like the tasteful lead guitar melodies intertwining with the awesome expertly-panned twin guitars, one strumming and one picking.  And then there is that awesome part toward the end with just the bass, and then the piano comes in!  Holy shit!  I know I said that already, but I love this!  I think it ended too abruptly after the piano came in, and now I am thinking it should have piano throughout the entire song.  As long as it doesn't take away from the guitars, which I am sure it wouldn't.

I am listening to it a third time, and there is something a little "off" with the piano, especially the low notes.  Did you use an effect on them?  They seem almost slightly out of tune in a way.  The high notes seem fine.  I still love the piano; I'm just wondering if there's a reason it sounds a little off, or if I'm just on crack (this is quite possible ;D).

The only thing I am not really getting is the lack of changes.  Seems to be the same chord progression throughout the whole song.  Is that right, or did I miss something?  For a song that is almost 4 minutes long, I would have liked at least one part that was completely different from the rest.  That said, the beauty of the song is so strong that it doesn't matter.  Plus, you have enough different things going on with the lead guitar melodies that it might just work as is.  I think with a good female voice, it would be taken to astronomical levels.  That would also help save it from sounding too repetitive.  I think you could create different parts -- verse, chorus, bridge -- just by changing the melody lines that are sung over the song.  Changing the drum patterns along with the vox in those parts would also help.

Dude, we really do need to start a side project.  I would love this song to be in our project.

Incredible work, man! :) :D ;D

Satchwood, Thank you! I actually started writing lyrics for this one, which I never do, and came to a loss of direction, perhaps a "Goodbye" theme might be a good way to go. Thanks for the idea.

Bosko, As always your talent is staggering and your compliments go a long way with me.

The piano is a little off, partly because I plugged the keyboard in to the MBR before changing the bass effects. oops. If I could play the piano better I would have added more. Might you be interested in this part? If we do start this side project we've been talking about we could start here. And if you have ideas for changes please don't hesitate.

As for changes, yes, I felt the same way, I think I just got lazy with it. Music has been absent from my life for the past couple of months and I think I just wanted to finish something -in a hurry- and post it here as I miss this community. Also, I got sucked in to the grove and just went with a minimalistic approach, but as you know it's not really my style. Now that you have reinforced the idea I think I will incorporate a change and perhaps a bridge. I felt like this song could go in so many different directions; it could build to a crescendo with the lead guitar getting louder and more distorted dragging it out to a 7 minute number. I could throw in a bridge, perhaps a piano solo. If the right vox was added it could stay as it is and rely on the clever and beautiful voice of the singer, such as yourself, or ACA (hint hint).

Gotta run.

many thanks,

Thanks Dmann! I'm working on it. I changed a few thing. Does anyone know if I can post my new version under the same topic heading or do I have to start a new one?

I really like how sparse and tasteful it is.  Very nice.

I know you are changing it, but I like it as is, simple maybe, but very effective.
