Personally, I can't stand text-speak. It doesn't take that much effort to use proper punctuation and spellings. I also can't stand the way youngsters nowadays (I can't believe I just used that expression!) use alternative spellings for words, as if there's some kind of kudos in looking illiterate. I really am a grumpy old man. But words are a beautiful, beautiful things, and should be treated with the respect they deserve.

I guess these things creep into our culture though, because if anyone had told me 10 years ago that I'd be using expressions like 'lol' and 'pmsl' on the internet, I wouldn't have believed I'd ever stoop so low on my standards. So I guess none of us are immune.

But it is a worry. Where is the great literature going to come from? Does anyone even read books these days?

i tried to send a text the other day -pissed me off so bad i gave up trying-just called-it was so much easier-i only have a cell phone for work-i they didnt buy it-i wouldnt have it

now my kids-thats different-i want them to have phones -the long arm of dad
