Want to order a Micro BR but basic questions....

Ok, I am really liking what I am reading about this awesoem little device but it is probably WAY more than I will need....

My question is - All I really want to use this thing for is to capture some of the songs and ideas my friends and I create (my son also plays drums with us).  That is...I want to put it in the room with us, and record us in a live environment (my basement) with the built in mike and save it to my PC for future use/reference. :)

Is it easy to this?  Is the quality useable using it in this fashion, etc.?

Any insights would be great!

yes it will do that but the onboard mic will only record in mono, i got a set of stereo mics on ebay for £5 (10 bucks) you can hear a recording of my mates gig on em here.

I am willing to bet that if you get one you will end up doing much more than that with it!

Hello,

I use the BR mostly for recording acoustic jams.  The built-in MIC works pretty well, but I also too bought one of the Sony MICS for 8 bucks on ebay.  This MIC is way more sensitive than the built-in and records in stereo, as oldrottenhead said.

I use  the BR converter software to convert to wave and then split the tracks with Audacity on the PC.

The thing has so many cool features, you could spend hours playing into it, experimenting with all the features.

If you ONLY ever use it to quickly grab ideas before they fall into the great abyss(where so many of my ideas went before MBR), it will be worth EVERY PENNY(in USA)that you spend on it.

Personally, I think that the onboard mic is incredible, and for portability purposes, is the way to go.

Once you have it and play with it, there are a ton of things to do, and you may want to make the small mic investment.
