A Bolder Park installment. Gabriel has added lyrics and vox to this one and I just wanted to see what everyone thinks of it. It's a work in progress. I recommend taking a few listens.

I like the song a lot Rik. Very mellow with smooth changes. I had a couple listens on cheapo headphones, and this may be why I'm not picking up enough bass, though. I'll have to try another method of delivery later.

This track definitely grows on you  - Killer vocals and guitar effects.

I like the way you have handled panning and mixing of the various parts.  None of the individual parts are taking up too much space but it sounds full. Not really a genre for me but I recognize that it's well done.

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

I love the handling of the guitars and the little touches of feedback. You really know how to create a killer guitarscape (everytime!). I agree with the comment that some more bass would add an extra element to this.

I have to say though that I'm not really getting the vocal on this. Maybe I'm just too old and not able to understand the dynamics involved, but it sounds a bit forced and drama-laden to me. Don't take my word for it though.

It's a very slick piece of work though, and I love the way you play and layer guitars. I always try and dismantle the parts, because it's similar to what I try to do for Jemima's Kite.

OsCKilO

Awesome interesting song!

The vocal is in line with "out there" stuff... Like Jack White..!

Sounds very Pro!

Without the vocal I'd say leave as it is.....

But With the vocal, there were chances for it to kick in with some controled fuzz guitar.

Would have really carried it off to some special places. Needs something to match the wild side lyrics....

Great track though!

Nice to hear from you again Erik, glad you're still working with Bolder Park. I've listened to this a lot because it's a bit diffferent from some of your other stuff. Overall, I really like it, it is a grower. I like Gabriel's vox, they really do remind me of David Surkamp from Pavlov's Dog and they create a very ethereal feel. The guitar layers are fantsatic and work really well, agree that a bit more bottom end on teh bass would be a good idea. I'm listening on my Sennheisers and I'm not hearing much.

The one thing I'm not sure of is the drums. They work in the quieter bits but when the track gets going at about 1:20 (and again at about 2:20) they get very thin when they play a more complex part and they don't help build the dynamics. That sort of 808ish sound works for the quiet bits but it needs a more organic sound to help build the power IMO. I think the track just wants that "lift" in a couple of places. BTW, I really like the percussion in the RH channel

A minor point - watch the feedback at about 22 secs and when it repeats. On my "radio mix" speakers it sounds very intrusive - the mid ranges get emphasized. It's a good effect but needs to be used carefully.

Hope you find these thoughts helpful - another great track, a lot of potential here and keep us posted on developments.

Cheers,

Nigel

Nigel, good to hear from you again. I agree it's a grower. I also agree about the drums now that you point it out.

As for the feedback, I think I need to experiment with compression (haven't really messed with it much) to keep the feedback in check.

There is no bass. it certainly could use some.

Thanks for the helpful tips.

Oops, that'll explain the lack of bottom end then! You can take that as an inverse compliment because your complex guitar layers often sound like there's a bass line in there.

I thnk some compression on the feedback would just help control it. It is a good effect though and adds atmosphere to the song.

I think this has a very unique sound.  It grows on you, the more I listen the more I like.

Satchwood

Very creative song with a uniqueness here thats very interesting !!

cool guitar echo in the intro and some nice use of feedback....I agree with some of the others that it keeps wanting to kick into over-drive....so go with it.

the vox are kinda different but fit, kinda like Muse...
