This is less of a tirade and more of a resigned sigh at the penny-pinching, small-minded capitalism of Britain, and the dark cloud we seem to be living under at the moment. It's a companion piece to my 'Greeny's Emporium' song. I wasn't going to post it, but if people don't agree with politics being raised / discussed, they don't have to listen to it  ;)

It's not particuarly controversial lyrically anyway.

The title is from a disparaging quote that Napoleon made about us a long time ago.

This is me on guitars, bass, vox and sound fx (added in Audacity).

Great song, simple and from the heart. Lovely chords and vox.

Sublime. Love the tune, lyrics, sentiment. It's great!

I thought everything sounded great. Clean and well produced. I don't know where you got the scanner sound effect, but it was beeping with high efficiency!

Well done, Tim! How do you guys do it? So prolific, and each one a gem. All my songwriting ideas lately seem to be half-formed, and I never seem to find the time to fully flesh them out. I need to do something about that.  :-[

So, did you capture the sound effects yourself in the MBR or another recorder? Or were they found sounds? Regardless, they do help to hammer the theme home.

I don't really have the time either, lol. This is all the product of too many (very) late nights. No wonder I'm running myself into the ground with tiredness!

All the sounds are from an excellent (and free) web resource called the Freesound Project. You have to register, but then it's a real treasure trove. Its contents have been used on lots of my solo stuff and Jemima's Kite songs. Well worth a look. As well as being able to cover pretty much anything you can think of, most of the clips are excellent quality. It seems to be a community for people who love recording anything and everything.

It's easier to add them in Audacity, because I can crop and adjust whilst looking at the soundwave patterns of the song. I also added some phaser swirl on this one. All the performed music is, as always, done on the BR micro.

Which is of course cheating  :D I just record the sound effects from Freesound, YouTube or anywhere else direct to the MBR - I take the headphone out from the PC to the line in on the MBR and use the input wheel for fade in/fade out. The beauty of this is you can actually add sound effects "live" to the track and on Freesound you can play multiple effects at once, which is quite fun if you want to build up a soundscape.

But Audacity is ok if you like that kind of thing! Tim uses sound effects very cleverly on a lot of his material, it really adds to the feel of the work. Check out "Greeny;s Emporium" if you haven't already.

Another excellent tune Greeny. Very easy on the ears. I really enjoy listening to your songs.

Your performance and production is always top-notch. You do some amazing work and your songs are very well written.

Are you a full-time musician?
It ain't pretty being easy.
