I am getting a message that says I cannot install BR Explorer on my Vista machine because it requires a 32 bit OS.

Does anyone know if there is a work-around?

Thanks,

I don't have access to Vista so I have never tested BR Explorer under it. When I first released BR Explorer, a couple of people reported that it installed okay under Vista but, when they first ran the program, an error message would pop up. After they closed the error window, the program ran normally. But this is the first report I've had that it won't even install.

From what I've read, 32-bit programs are supposed to work under 64-bit Vista. So I'm not sure why it won't install. See this microsoft page.

The only thing I can suggest is to install it on another computer running Windows XP or 98.

Or...

Download a ubuntu disk image, burn it to a CD, and install it under Vista using the included Wubi installer. This lets you run ubuntu under Windows without having to partition your hard drive. You can then install BR Explorer in ubuntu using Wine. If you decide to try this and you need more help, send me a personal message or email.

Of course, a bonus with installing ubuntu under Vista is that you get to try all the great free software that's available for ubuntu, including lots of music apps. See this message.

http://www.geocities.com/sixtyfourguitars/BRX/v102/BRX_Help.html

I had to move all of my GeoCities pages because Yahoo! is closing GeoCities soon. Fortunately, Pedro has very kindly allowed me to move my pages to BossBR.net.

The new address of the site is https://songcrafters.org/64guitars/BR/.

And BR Explorer is now at https://songcrafters.org/64guitars/BR/BRX/index.html.

The instructions are at https://songcrafters.org/64guitars/BR/BRX/v102/BRX_Help.html (although they won't help to solve this Vista problem).

Thanks guys.

64 - I'm gonna see if I can get it to install and if not, I will have to try your solution. I will let you know if I have any problems. Thanks again for all your help.

VCD - Can't help you with the particular problem, but if you've got Vista-64bit, then be prepared for several disappointments. If Bill Gates & His Cronies had released this first, he would have been the poorest man in the World rather than one of the richest. I'm glad I kept my computer running XP as well as the new one running Vista-64bt, because it's caused nothing but problems. If anyone wants an example, if you thought that that Office Helper that keeps popping-up in Microsoft Word is intrusive, it's nothing compare to how Vista wants to manipulate the way you run your computer with that OS. I believe MS are rushing to release a new OS...Mmm, I'll wait and see. And hope they give a FREE swap to those of us who were conned into running this pile of sh*t!!
