Chords...

Em, G, D, C .... good old classic progression :)

I hit the D chord again at the last beat of the first two bars of the chorus.

There we go, it nice to hear this Steve, its very nicely done.  There is a gold nugget sitting here that will turn into something great for sure.  If it was me I would add a big ass guitar solo somewhere in there, and maybe at the outro, but thats because I love guitar solos.  It could also sound good with a build up of guitar layers across the stereo field.  Start with the simple fingerpicked part by itself, and slowly add layers of guitar to the verses, different shapes for the same chords for added depth, and of course on the chorus come in with some big ass power chords almost like the Who style.  Thats the kinda sh*t I would do to flesh out a great song like this.  Another idea is have an acoustic guitar strumming the whole time and double it and pan it full L&R in the background, that always sounds nice too.  Lots of things to try with such a great starting point as this.  Or even Deep Purple style hammond organ solo.  So much to try.  Bottom line is that this is a damn fine song to start with so there is much potential here.

Definetly has that erie/cave cool/damp like sound --- or as Geir indicated - a bathroom recording.  I usualy follow the voice just for a melody as have a hard time picking up words - your words were fairly clean!  I downloaded it to run it via my stereo and play around w/it a bit...

Yeah BB, I have tried to do just that with this song, but it never sounded right. One day....

One day please Steve, this is a great song. Has hints of the ballady Metallica stuff to it (I get a hint of "Nothing Else Matters") and has a lot of potential. But it still stands on its own as a simple, strong piece. The vocal performance is great and carries it as it stands.

Cheers,

Nigel

Hey Steve, T(osckilo) and me have taken this (with your permission) and are laying on some window dressing to see where we would take a song like this (I am trying some of the ideas I mentioned in my previous thread).  Watch for it in the coming days.  I have added extra rhythm guitar and a small amount of lead, the osckilo guys are going to add bass, keys and real drums.  Lets see what this bad boy will sound like all dressed up for church.  This is a really strong song, the more I listened to it while working on it last night, the more it got inside my head.  Really strong, emotive vocals here Steve.  We are having some fun with it and will see what it gets up to.
