hi i have been using Audacity to trim my songs before posting them. So far i've not had a problem but the latest song was to large a file so i recorded it at 64 but when i trimmed it and exported it it came out at 128 and was too large to upload!! Can i change the bit rate in audacity is basically the question i'm asking? i know it's not exactly a boss question but i believe a few of you use Audacity?

thanks

The edit tab has a section at the bottom called preferences....

You can have a mess around there.... And also on the Drop down menu on the Audio track.....

I'd leave it to the MBR though..... Alot easier....

I agree with Osckilo(Tharek), Tom - Stick with the brick. Your tunes are fantastic - no point in messing with too much technology. You don't need it.

Cant remember how to do it on Audacity, though I know you can. On Audition there is an option when you save/Mixdown. Maybe there?

In Audacity 1.3.7, the Export File dialog has a long Options button at the bottom.

Make sure that the file type (above and to the right of the Options button) is set to "MP3 Files", then click the Options button. You should see the following dialog:

Click the Quality button to change the bit rate. You should check it each time you export. It will remember the last bit rate you used but that isn't always what you want, so always check it.

I have some free software called wavepad that I use for simple trims and saving / converting between WAV and various mp3 bit rates. It's just quicker than using the BR...

tom r

Is wavepad something i can download free if i google it?

It is free... or it was... and it's reliable with no silly ad-ons, spyware etc etc...

Audacity has turned out to be pretty danged sweet. I'll have to check out WavePad, too.
