I've been reading my book on modes again and just learned that bluegrass is a mode of the blues scale - you end up with a flattened 3rd and a natural third in the same scale. I thought I'd put it to the test and wrote this tune. The chords are totally bog standard, but I was quite pleased with what came out.

Your arrangement perfect - I want to be able to do stuff like this some day!!

Could you please tell us what book of modes you are reading? I've been thinking about educating myself more over the summer.

Most excellent!!

Hi Mark, MODES FOR GUITAR by TOM KOLB is really useful. It's fascinating that styles like flamenco, blues, bluegrass, jazz, country etc all follow rules in relation to the modes. I suppose it's like language. Every language is different but they all have rules that make sense.

You should be jamming this with a blind, in-bred boy on banjo, lol. Really tight, wonderful playing. Too short though! Another genre licked - what next?!

Sounds great!  Very uplifting.  What guitar did you use?
