I passed on the strat. I might kick myself but something wasn't right. The sound was there but the feel needed work. I guess I could have taken it to a shop and got a decent guitar for under $600 but I 've just seen too many excellent deals out there (In Vancouver there's tons of them for less). I WILL have my strat one day.

It's all about the thing in your hand Glenn, If it don't feel right, it's probably someone elses.

I don't have a Strat, but my heart knew the moment I played my Godin that it was the guitar for me, I just took 6 months to convince my head.

I've picked up many guitars and put nearly all of them all down.

Im just getting back from vacation, this thread caught my attention...and Im only sorry I couldnt have saved you the drive/time/money/effort.

See, the neck looks like a 60's with the rosewood, and it probably is...BUT the body isnt...thats not a 60's model color and not likely even a Fender(and the horns are somewhat wide and funny looking)...the pickgaurd, although "60's style" is an "All-Parts" replacement...the knobs dont match, maybe the electronics doesnt either or is of poor quality, I certainly wouldnt expect the classic 60s electronics inside...and the stock pups are pretty damn good![edit]look at the lack of raised pole pieces...IM thinking Mitey Might or Golden Age pickups[/edit]

Id have offered him $200-300 USA at the most(for the neck alone, Id want nothing else to do with it)...but still probably wouldnt have been happy.
Im here to say you did the right thing.

MGM - It's your decision. Your Guitar is still out there.  :)

And, rather than start a New Thread, I'll just hog this one a bit!!
There's an adage, isn't there: You only get what you pay for.
So, I've been playing my £99 No-Name Strat-copy for the last ten years and thoroughly enjoyed it. But then, hearing some of the products-on-display on this here Forum, I thought, definitely time to upgrade. So this week I've spent £250 on a Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster, and oh boy, can't you just tell the difference when you've got something a bit classy in yer hands??!! :o  Pic below.
The first night I had it I got about 3 hours sleep. The rest I just lay in bed strumming away, (The Significant-Other has Her own place), and, erm, I won't be too descriptive, but have you ever heard one of these in the bathroom/toilet?? Fantastic, money well spent. Hope to put something together soon.

Thanks for that. It's comforting to know my instincts were ok on this.
There were unmatched screws on the pick guard and one of the sleeves on the tuners was missing, the knobs unmatched,  the plug-in loose.
I did take the time to bring the bridge down to a playable level but it bothered me that I even had to do that.
Even the fact of the guy, who didn't know how to play it, was covered in tattoos, worked with a circus and lived with his dad, "bought" it from Florida.
It all added up to a feeling of walking solo down some unknown Barrio neighborhood in the dark.

PS Flash Harry, I guess it was kind of  like you say. I had someone else's thing in my hand.  EEWWW!  Lol
