Apart from the usual Strat, Tele, bass etc, here's basically my current set-up. And I can only say that if a chom-yed like me can achieve something half-decent with these DAW facilities, Lord knows what a trained sound engineer is capable of?!!  8)  ::)

[EDIT Sept/Oct 2012] So, finally re-fannied about with this, and from a mixture of BR900 & Sonar DAW Software (incl SoftSytnths), this is what emerged. I'm actually not too embarrassed by this.
(And still tinkering...late 2013).

Here are the lyrics:

WaterPark.

A sand-coloured river argues quickly by.
Romances like the sound of a protest song.
Carries the fallen leaves, on its falling minor key,
Beyond the frozen Waterpark and me.

The brooding Winter blows down through the dirty fields.
A heavy blanket lies on this provincial town.
So ask some burning questions and the doubt-bound may be freed.
Beyond the frozen Waterpark and me.

What can I do with it all, Daddyo?
What can I do with it all?
Every story needs a clause, Daddyo.
So what can I do with it all?

The Gasworks and the Glass-Works and the Churches rise.
The former telling of some former better times.
The steeples promise perfect peace, for all eternity,
For some faithful of Humanity.

Hope someone explains it All.

Hey Steve...good to hear a post from you. I'd say this song is about impossible to genr-i-fy. I liked what i was hearing though. I thought it had kind of a 60's vibe..touch of tremelo in there? Sort of reminded me of early Donovan in a way. Probably 90% of the folks here will be able to hear all the lyrics..but due to my hearing loss, i was struggling and i had the feeling that they were the heart of the song. Any chance you could post them right here under your player?
Your intro statement was a bit of a concern. Did you have issues with your 1200? Re-initializing? What's up with that? Us 1200 guys gotta stick together!  ;D
Good keyboard work here and the minors and that beat give the tune a rather serious aura. Good vocals but i gotta hear those lyrics! Thanks!

PDG - Nope, I haven't got any issues with the 1200, er, in fact sometimes I think it's a bit TOO perfect, and just sits there mocking me for all my musical failings!  ;D

I have re-intialised the Hard-Drive twice before already - you simply wouldn't believe the amount of musical-junk I accumulate. And so, having now found the musical-Forum of my dreams, I'm gonna start with a clean sheet (and Hard-Drive), and see if I can incorporate some structure into my song composition.  ??? ::) There's also an update available from the Roland/Boss website, so I'm going to do some Housekeeping all round with this wonderful machine.

(By The Way, PDG and ALL the Others, these machines are 'sound' recorders, and so I hope at some stage that we get a Member who will, for instance, record a babbling brook or early-morning Bird Song, and then recite the Gettysburg Address over it, or Hamlet's soliloquy etc. )

Hey there Steve, this is really tender.  Really great lyrics (is this original lyics, they are really good), of course this reminds me of Roger Waters, in fact it could be the great bonus last track from "The Final Cut", it would make a really great end of album track.  It is so subtle.  I would bring up the levels a bit on the guitars for sure.  Your voice is very emotive and atmospheric.  I think you sing good, good pitch control, if you let loose and sang harder I bet it would sound really good.  It was subtle, lovely, atmospheric, melchanoly...I really like it.  Now that the deck is cleared, lets get some more Steve.  I like what I am hearing.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

This is truly a beautiful piece of music!!

Great emotional performance, and shouldn't need much tweaking in the mastering to sound really good, it's quite near as it is!

Lovely!

What a lovely, subtle, and thought-provoking song. The lyrics and the imagery they invoke are wonderful. Really good writing. You handle the music side very nicely - I like the soft drum pushed right back in the mix... kind of a motown beat, but totally transformed in this setting. Your vocals are more than up to this - I agree with Bluesberry that you could definitely cut loose on a louder song. Your singing style sounds a bit like Feargel Sharkey from The Undertones to me. The mixing sounds great - not sure what you're worried about on this count. Fine work.

Thanks for posting the lyrics Steve. I knew my intuitions were right! man that first verse is just killer! I think you are off to a great start with your clean disk. I have about40 songs on mine and have not yet re-initialized. It says i have lots of room still so....
I'll check out the updates at Boss/Roland. Just wish i had a PC or a laptop next to my BR instead of at opposite ends of the house! Trust the feedback you are getting here....Onward soldier!

PDG - Here is the link to the update page. Click 'Download', and you will be able to check your machine's Software Version before you need to do anything else. You may in fact not need to update at all. If you do, well I had to use a CD-RW rather than the CD-R it stipulates, guess my BR is just being hornery!! After that there was no problem. Good luck.

Thanks Everyone for the kind comments about this song, though I'm still convinced that you're All ingesting recreational relaxation software while typing at your keyboards!! ;D

I quite accept that there could be some work done on this track, unfortunately now, it has joined its discarded siblings somewhere in deleted Cyber-Space, so the version you hear here, is the only one in existence.

All the lyrics to my songs are original. I have enough problems summoning-up enough courage to sing my own words, without ever being accused of butchering someone else's.

Apart from saving a short song which I will work on next week, all the contents of my Hard-Drive have been wiped, and so it's time to start again.

As others' have said, these type of comments and suggestions really do spur you on to create. Thanks to you All.  ;)
