I'm about to go on vacation for a week or so, but we had a final jam in the living room tonight.  The keyboardist suggested "Gravity" by John Mayer.  The drummer and I had never heard it before, so we ran through it a few times, and then I recorded it without the troop knowing.  FYI, the "troop" included a guitarist/vocalist, drummer, bassist, and a keyboardist.

Our bass player didn't show tonight (He said-and I quote-"I've got it coming out of both ends."), so I am attempting to keep down the low end.  I find not overplaying on bass an impossibility, but I tried to hold it together as long as I could.  I should have gone to sleep two hours ago, but I got ultra-involved with tweaking the sound.  I'm about as close to happy with the mix/mastering as my tolerance/exhaustion will allow.  That being said, there is some midrange/low-end warble to the mp3.  I've tried to re-encode a couple times, but I can't fix it.  It's driving me nuts as it is not in the wav file.

This is the first live recording I've done where I had the singer re-cut the vocals in order to eliminate all the bleedover into the vocal mic during the live take.  It's like night and day from the high-pitched echo that was hard to squelch previously.

As always...peace.

p.s.-I still haven't heard the original, so I have no idea how it was "supposed" to sound.  I guess we kind of do things in our own manner anyway.

I am listening right now and commenting as we go....
This sounds great! I too, I must confess have never heard this before, so I cannot 'compare' it to the original, but I can say with all truthfullness, that it sounds awesome!
I love it!
it is going to my mp3 player so as to listen to it frequently.

Yes - I love it.

I would have spent a lot of time on this one, too - a rewarding effort in my opinion.

A very good sound overall - coaxing the singer into overdubbing was a great move.

I've heard this song a couple times before - Even a hardcore Mayer fan would love it!!

Sounds pretty good to me, especially for a live recording. I'd be very happy with this. Great job all round, you must have fun at your place with these sessions. Excellent guitar playing btw.

Cheers,

Another Bloobified classic!

I don't think anyone here has heard the original (nor have I).  Guess there aren't a whole lot of John Mayer fans here, myself included. :-\

Like Geir said, though, it doesn't matter.  It's actually better that I haven't heard the original.  There's nothing to be tainted.  Nothing to compare either version to.  Just a pure listening experience.  I dig the mellow, sweet vibe.  There are bits of noodling here and there, but in actuality (knowing you), you have restrained yourself quite a bit (on both bass and guitar), and I applaud this.  At the same time, though, the solos are vintage Blooby.  There is absolutely no reason you shouldn't be playing these songs in front of huge stadiums full of women throwing panties at you.  This recording is so good it sounds like an album cut.  Not a live song.  And not a home-recorded song.  A professional studio recording. :o

Props on the vocals as well, whoever did them.  Smooth as silk.

Three cheers, as always! :D :D :D
