"Smoke in your eyes"....? I didn't know this Serge Gainsbourg song!

...I was looking for another song to do for the "1975'song" festival...and it was Dasilvasings' comment in my cover of "Notre vie en rose" that put "la puce à l'oreille" in my ear

"I was looking at what Gainsbourg was doing in 1975 and found the Rock around the bunker. I knew some of the songs, but not all. he has a very particular sense of humour.

well, frankly I didn't know Serge Gainsbourg's 1975 album at all

Rock around the Bunker is a concept album by Gainsbourg whose theme is frankly thorny as it is indeed entirely devoted to Nazi Germany'

I understand Dasivasings' reluctance to cover one of his songs

But this time I don't dare to cover him!

There is, however, one song on this album that escapes the 'Nazi Germany' theme...this song is Smoke in your Eyes, which is actually a song from 1933, and the phrase "smoke in your Eyes" is used as a let motiv gimmick in the song that precedes it on the album, dedicated to Eva Braun

Note that the entire album was recorded in London in 1975, and all the songs are in a rock, blues style

I'm posting this song for the 1975 festival because the album is indeed from 1975, although this particular song isn't...it's up to the SC administrators to see if it can be included in the festival.

Sounds like some real nitty gritty blues, and I mean that in high praise! I love your vocal here and the lead/rhythm guitars sound excellent. I recently saw a video of Gainsbourg watching a bunch school children dressed up as him singing one of his songs....very amusing!

That's cruel, brutal, and very satisfying.

The only song I can think of with an homage to Eva Braun is "[I Never Loved] Eva Braun" by Boomtown Rats.

Where did the piano come from? It's got a real classic country sound – Nashville in the 1960s. Is that you, or one of your BIAB tricks? It's gorgeous.

What a great listen! The production is outstanding and the vocals and guitars are really bluesy-gritty!

It is amazing as the song fits so well into the blues progression.

There is a odd sound in the around the final (2.50). Is it you singing or a harmonica? Or is it Serge's ghost living in the Digital World?

Very happy that you revisited the album. Yes, the theme is apparently Nazi Germany, but IMO is is mainly his views on cold war, and general geopolitics of 1975, with all Gainsbourg sarcasm and humour.

Musically, that album is not my cup of tea, but the lyrics are as always, very good.
