Thank you for your good wishes...friends, ...old age (and its cortege of physical decline) is an ugly flaw, try to escape it :D :D

Thank you Booby for the reference to Loup de Mer...this novel isn't in the huge compilation of Jack London's autobiographical stories, which I picked up at the 'livres donnés', at the Hospital...but I'll try to get hold of it...

I'm currently reading 'Vagabonds du rail'...it's fascinating and the way Jack London describes in detail the techniques used by the hobos to take freight trains and then evade the guards (there were two or three per train...it's fascinating! if you're thinking of covering the mythical song King of the road, you must have read this book first ;) ;)

Of course I'm already preparing a cover of Charlie Winston's 'Like a Hobo' ;)

As far as my health is concerned, this evil combination of acute pancreatitis and flu has really shaken me up...but 'I will survive', I'll be discharged from the Hosto Saint Jack tomorrow :D

Funny Cameroon story: There's a famous Cameroonian footballer named Roger Milla. I know a Cameroonian who opened a restaurant in Silver Spring, Maryland, and wanted to give it a name that would appeal to the Cameroonian diaspora, but he also wanted an American-sounding name. So he named his restaurant "Roger Miller Restaurant" before really realizing that Roger Miller was the name of an American singer from the mid-60s. And like most Americans, Roger Miller probably couldn't find Cameroon on a world map. I was only familiar with Miller because my dad used to sing "King of the Road," and "Dang Me" in the car.

Speaking of Americans and Jack London: I finished watching Jack London: American Original last night and was fascinated. I had no idea how huge he was, influential, and how many competing political factions tried to claim London as one of their own. And, as an American, his impact and influence were boiled down in my country to a couple of "dog books." His radical politics were completely swept under the rug as far as the American canon was concerned. In American curricula, writers who followed in London's footsteps are likewise mostly remembered for their most politically safe works – Hemingway (The Old Man and the Sea), Steinbeck (Of Mice and Men), and Faulkner (The Sound and the Fury) – sidestepping their more provocative critiques of class, race, and power.

Sorry you had to go to the hospital in order to open my eyes about the other works by Jack London.

I know Roger Milla well...fantastic Cameroonian footballer who played 10 years in several French soccer clubs.

..me too, and as the proverb says: "every cloud has a silver lining", this hospitalization allowed me a fortuitous (re)discovery of Jack London, whom I knew only through "croc-blanc"..and we found ourselves together in the same hospital bed.

I hope you're feeling better soon, JP.

I haven't read Jack London in quite a while now, but I was very into his works at the turn of this century. A good collection of his novels is available from Library of America. Think I'll return to it for another reading...

Yes, it really is worth reading and re-reading.

And don't forget to watch the films and series compiled by the excellent Ted. For my part, I've ordered the ARTE France documentary on VOD. "Jack London, an american adventure

I'm getting out of hospital tomorrow and to celebrate, I'll probably do a repeat of this classic. " Saint James infirmary " ;)
