I just about managed to complete the vocals on this before coming down with a nasty chest infection.
The idea for this song came to me as I was walking along a country lane close to home in the early evening just as it was starting to get dark. I pictured in my mind someone walking that same road and suddenly imagining they heard a familiar voice behind them, looking back only to discover there was no-one there. Their mind had tricked them into hearing what they wanted to hear. The song plays on the contradictory emotions of hope and happiness followed by disappointment and sadness but finishes on a more positive note describing how holding onto a precious happy memory can often bring future comfort and hopefully with it peace of mind. Hope you enjoy.

Daylight was gently fading as the night fell with the rain
Eerie shadows all around me as I wandered down that lane
I heard a voice behind me, one I thought I knew
So I stopped and turned around and wondered was it really,
Could it really be you?

As I peered into the darkness to see if it was true
All I could see was misty rain and there was no sign of you
Seemed like my ears had somehow, played a trick on me
Or maybe from deep within in my mind there'd come a long-lost faded memory

So I kept on walking, and made my weary way back home
Frightened by the gloomy shadows and feeling all alone
I know I didn't really hear your voice coming out of the rain
But I'll bring to mind that memory if I ever walk that lonely
road again

The tinkling of the capo'ed guitar chords are very inviting. The soft strumming and picking makes me listen more intently. Excellent vocal and words. A beauty of a song!

It's great you caught the vocal just before you got sick, I'm just getting over a bad cold myself. I really like this track, beautiful chords and great lyrics. The vocals are excellent too, so soothing!
