How many chorus pedals do I need

So let me start. I like pedals, I enjoy pedals - but logically I can't explain my constant desire to keep buying more.

I blame growing up without much disposable income, and spending my youth staring at these wonderful boxes in shop windows, and dreaming. Now I've reached an age where I do have disposable income, I have been knocking myself out. They do, however, give me joy and that is a good thing.

The recent JHS blow out sale of their Ross range got me thinking "which one do I want". I came to the conclusion that if I were to order one, it would be the chorus. That begs the question, how many chorus pedals do I need, in reality. I have access to a few - namely

chorus in the BR1600
chorus in the TASCAM DP32
Chorus in the Behringer Virtualizer rack
chorus in the Boss ME8
chorus in the TC Electronics Nova
Chorus's in the Kemper

and then there are the pedals

multiple chorus in EHX Mod 11
Chorus in the Zoom MS70CDR multi stomp
Sonicake chorus mini pedal
Boss chorus ensemble
Eventide H9 multiple chorus
Dod chorus pedal
Walrus Julia

And the kicker is, I don't really use chorus that often.

And after all that - I'm still thinking about the Ross Chorus .... I wonder about me :-)

That's a lovely - and enviable - collection. As you know, I'm a fellow pedal addict. What's incredible is that this obsession only started (in earnest) during lockdown. It's weird how it morphs and shifts, but there's always a new pedal or effect that I become fixated on. Currently flangers - even though I prefer Phasers. Totally irrational.

I spend a lot of time either watching review videos, pedal shopping, researching pedals and tinkering with my main and spare pedalboards. I have all the fx categories covered several times over in most cases now.

Chorus is essential. I also have a few, starting cheaply then upgrading as I went. I still love the EHX small clone but it's on my 2nd board now. My main chorus is the JHS 3 series. But here's the kicker - since getting that, it's the 'vibe' setting that really does it for me. So it's permanently on that. Yes, it's still chorus modulation, but it's the exact flavour I want / need.

I do use my pedals though - all the time. So they are definitely productive tools for songcrafting.

p.s. Buy the Ross (if you can)

p.p.s. I definitely had board envy at Metstock, lol

I think this had a lot to do with my current pedal/guitar journey also which i hope is starting to slow down a bit.

The upside with my pedal addiction is that i look for the "best" thing and have no trouble (well... some :)) trading away the extras. So i actually have only a few pedals lying around.

I have an Ibanez SC10 Stereo Chorus. And you don't.

I don't remember when I bought it or where, whether it was new or used. I definitely bought it in Phoenix, in the '80s. I lucked out. It was an impulse purchase, and I've used it ever since. I'm still learning how to use it.

I'm not just bragging that I have this and you don't – not just bragging but bragging nonetheless. I have actual feedback for you: I wouldn't get the Ross chorus if I were you. Having been spoiled by my dumb luck with the SC10, I can't imagine having a mono chorus pedal. The stereo-ness is my one of my favorite features – recording guitar on two tracks at once and panning them far apart in the mix.

FWIW: No to the Ross/JHS chorus.

That is a lot of choruses at you finger or toe tips Bruno. My favorite chorus pedal is an MXR stereo chorus from the 1980s and my other favorite is built into my Fender Acoustasonic amp 80. Both have a lushous sound but I don't use them very often.

That's interesting about lockdown. At the start I only had two guitars, the Telecaster (which I've owned since 1986) and my acoustic.  I'm now up to six.

That said my pedal addiction was before then. I sold a load when I realised it was getting out of hand. I wish I hadn't, I often look for them on the internet. It's the Tokai Metaldriver I miss most.

I got rid of my Boss MT-2 Metal Zone. I used that when i used to gig.
It was totally the wrong type of distortion for the type of stuff we played... I won't be missing that. Ever.

I've traded away more fuzz pedals than that i currently own (!). I'm actually missing out on a few "topologies".
