Late submission for Hide in your shell, from Supertramp's 1974 album Crime of the Century.

Supertramp was my favourite band in those transitional years when you are 12/ 14 years old. Later in high school I was discovering The Clash, Sex Pistols, and living the "Grunge Revolution", and I obviously thought them quite lame, and stopped listening for many years.

But like a guilty pleasure that becomes too frequent, I made my peace with their amazing work (the first album, Supertramp, is an hidden gem) and they entered the "legacy" status, ie songs I show my kids, and not surprisingly they got fond of it.

Hide in your shell was always one of my favourites, and I remember listening to a youtube version (that was deleted, at least I can't find it anymore) where it was stripped down to just guitar and voice. I was amazed how such a complex song could live with such simple instrumentation, and it entered my wishlist of songs I wanted to cover.

The song itself is not so complex as it seems, but the vocals are a challenge. Not only Roger Hodgson has "that voice" but, much more unique, he sings each word with such an intensity, and I am simply not used to express myself so "bare and naked".

To cope with the high notes, I transposed down the song, and assumed a different instrumentation.

I am sucker for the Roland 808, synths, mellotrons and distorted guitars (actually my electric ukulele), and so I add them all.

I am relatively happy with the final result. It is an interesting review of the song, but Roger's voice and singing are unique, and I just couldn't sing with the right intensity all the time. In the end, even with the transposition, I felt my voice was close to the limit.

I also felt on this song the limits on what you can do when multitracking because when playing live there is an energy between instruments / voice / backing vocals that you simply cannot reach one track at the time.

But... Nevermind the bollocks. Here's dasilvasings

Wow nicely produced I feel your efforts.
The pitch of Roger's voice is so difficult to reach.
Even in the quiets moments and school are my favorites.
I do have an electric bass and guitar, i do have an acoustic guitar. I even have a keyboard and a Roland drum set What I seem to miss is skills. So to cure my at least 40y frustration I dicovered my instrument being my voice. So I finaly had the nerve to take singing lessons and make my voice heared thanks to Songcrafters.

I really like Supertramp.. but i don't think I know this song..

I actually think you can but you gotta play with yourself alot... and maybe become a drummer too...

I really like your voice on this... and the effects as well.
very creative... and that is the most fun of a track like this.
I also like your pronunciations which are very very good!  Lots of emphasis.
