Hey all, I was hanging at the house (my 7 year old son is upstairs watching Star Wars), drinking a few red ales, playing my acoustic, singing some of my favorite songs.  I decided to set up the microBR and record one of them.  This is a song from one of my favorite Canadian Bands, Blue Rodeo, very popular here in Canada, been around for a while.  Kinda like the Canadian Wilco, Alt.Country at its best.  I strummed and sang in one go, recorded with my Boss mini stereo condenser mic, into one pair of stereo tracks.  I then recorded the small guitar and harmonica solo on the other pair of stereo tracks, mastered with Live Mix and here it is.  I really like this song, I tried to do it justice, rough and ready as it is, and sorry about the clipping in a couple of spots.

I've been trying to sing and play at the same time and would love to be able to do something like this. You do it so well. I love the added overlays, but the song would still stand strong without them.

One day, man...

Your Skill on that guitar is amazing!

Although your vox was great, but I sense that you are holding back....

I hear such a powerful voice....

You sound like you are 7 feet tall.....

I wonder what you would sound like on a tune where you could just let loose vocally...???

No kids in the house thinking dad has gone mad...... Or wife thinking that the guitar is getting more quality time than her....!

I think you know it as well, because you fill the gaps with that stunning playing...

It is like you are stopping yourself.....(not that the vox needed more.....Just that there was so much behind them! sounded like you had to stop yourself getting carried away!!!!)

I think it would be amazingly powerfuL if you were to "let-loose/unleash the beast"...... Some kind of rocky hardcore tune.....with loud ass riffs and something for your voice to fight with!

Great track BB....!!!!

Loved it!

Now thats quite a thing to say T man, when I play and sing like this I feel like I am 7 feet tall.  I am standing in my dining room, singing my heart out, and like you say, trying to not bother anybody too much in the house, but still singing pretty hard.  But you know I am just figuring this singing thing out and I feel that I am slowly getting somewhere, it has taken me a long time (2 years) to be able to strap on an acoustic and sing like this, and record it in one go, and like the results, but it is feeling more confident all the time.  I am always worried about going out of tune also (the Ian Curtis curse), which may be part of the holding back, but thanks big time for the compliment T.  I am starting to like my singing voice, which is what I have been working towards.  Thank you all you good folks, I love strumming and singing, it is my quality time for sure.

Hey Bluesberry, I love the idea of the "Ian Curtis curse"  :) Your vox are getting stronger all the time and this was quite hard to pull off in places, as it goes high and low all overt the place. You did a great job - there's a couple of places where it's a little pitchy but there's also some tough high notes you pull off really well. Overall, a great job for something "rough and ready". I like the sound of this, I will check out Blue Rodeo as i don't know them and I like alt.country.

Cheers,

Nigel

Hey Blues this is fantastic. I have strummed and played since I was 14 so not new to me.  And here you are doing what I take for granted and I am doing what you take for granted. (playing guitar) Maybe we should collab someday.  You just keep strumming and singing it will come.  YOu have the voice for it.  Anyone that can play can sing.  Andyou got the ear you got it.
P.J.  You go guy!!!
