For Christmas 1983, Eddie's mum bought him a new synthesiser. Eddie loved his new synth and was very excited to show it off at the next band practice. Eddie was a quick learner and they were all very impressed at what he could already do with it. By the end of that session, they'd written Jump and they all slept well that night.*

I must admit that I've always loved the song and the album it's from, I was never keen on the synth. So I've made an all-guitar version. It's my own arrangement.  I got a bit OCD with the backer, which also has GB P bass and drums. Guitar is the Ibanez Talman acoustic.   The key is C and the capo on three.

*this is how I imagine it happened anyway.

You have absolutely captured the essence of the song with your acoustic, bass, drums and vocals! Well done with this "out of the box" thinking, ODH!

StephenM

yes a great cover of a very popular song...

admittedly I think the song is very good but I would never have been a VH fan at all if this is the kind of stuff they always did... at that time of my life this was way too pop for me.

you did a great job on this..

nice guitar work for sure!!!!

Ha! I think it's kinda the same with me. I always thought this song was too cheesy for me! (can you imagine? coming from the sultan of sleaze! :D).

But what we have here is understated masterpiece. Every little detail that matters is there and ODH sounds warm like a sunday morning, ready for that bungee jump!

Fun, effective and different! I'm loving it!

I saw this pop up on the jukebox must have been yesterday and thought wow, who has had a go at this!?

Well Nick you properly pulled this off. It's really fresh and interesting and very listenable.

Excellent job.

Seems this is a bit of a contraversial tune though among rock fans. I always loved it though, there is a place for it for me in amongst the heavier stuff no doubt.

WOW! This is a fabulous cover, the progression sounds amazing on acoustic. Your laid back vocal is prefect for this and the solo section was a real treat. It makes me wish Van Halen recorded it like this instead! I'm blown away man, FAB JOB

Brilliant version Nick.  I'm a big Eddie fan so I love this reimagined take on it.  Love this.

Oh, me too, all day long. I always say Eddie taught me to play* guitar. He wasn't there in person but he left a load of recordings for me to pick apart. And for me it's not about the shredding and tricks, but the way he used chords and put them together, like leaving open strings in bar chords, adding texture and complexity.

*with help from Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page, I should say.
