Nope. Not a damn thing.

Exactly! In High School I was in concert band and stage band. Part of the curriculum was to read off the sheet. So instead of being creative we had to play some dude's shit note for note.

I wish I knew then what I know now. Of course get inspiration from past influence but follow your own mind and don't look back.

When I first started to learn guitar (50 years ago this year !) I managed to read a little bit, enough to play melodies like Greensleeves but never got to the stage of sight-reading. I soon forgot it all when I learned all my basic chords and just started to try and play along to records by ear, which I still find difficult.

It was a blessing when I started to buy guitar mags in the 90's with the chords and tab for songs. Nowadays I learn new songs from chords and tab from the internet.

I can read on violin. I was surprised to find that the mandolin is tuned the same as a violin, so can read music playing the Mando. Bloody strange

Amazing what the human mind can do sometimes.

And then there are those who can read the music – not to play it, but to hear it in their minds as though they were reading book.

In college I took a Jazz Ensemble course and for a brief period I could sight read very simple bass parts.
