Dear John

I so sorry to read that you are not satisfied with the attention you get from me and the others.
If I check your personal jukebox although I can't find the reason for your discontent.
For me this forum is like a socialmedium and I can't listen to everything that's in the timeline.
And I accept that not everybody is interested in my singing effords. But you however get lots of comments on your selfmade outstanding music.
I would feel sorry to see you leave the forum.

I do have an electric bass and guitar, i do have an acoustic guitar. I even have a keyboard and a Roland drum set What I seem to miss is skills. So to cure my at least 40y frustration I dicovered my instrument being my voice. So I finaly had the nerve to take singing lessons and make my voice heared thanks to Songcrafters.

I've brought this up before but here it is again.

My newest song had only 10 replies in 4 days but had a page view of over 120! (as of July 2)
By contrast Ray Brookes's new song has 10 replies in 1 day with a total page view of only 42.

Why are many people viewing my page but not replying?!

I think they're trying to tell me something.  I think they're trying to tell me that they listened but for some reason don't feel as if my song is worthy of giving me accolades.

Don't you people think I like complements too?  Don't you think I have feelings?

You see a song by Ray and you think "Hey, that's Ray!  I gotta check him out.  I gotta tell him how GREAT that tune is."

You see a song by me and you just don't see it, or you think "Oh, that's just boring Johnbee.  I'll skip over him".

And I'm not knocking Ray's music.  It's great and he's great, but frankly I think most of my stuff is just as good and worthy of as much attention.  There are a handful of others here too who get the "star treatment".  Ray's only one example.

Also, many of the replies I do get I have to PM people and ask what they think.  That's not right either.
If you don't instinctively want to comment it's no good.  You can't force somebody to like something if they don't

Is this a "clique" here?  Is this a "club"?  That's what it feels like when a small handful of artists get the hero treatment as soon as they post a song.  You'll listen to your "buddies" and ruffle their feathers with every song they put up but just overlook everybody else at worse or "occasionally throw them a crumb"
at best.

Maybe most here Do think my music sucks!

I don't like cliques or clubs.

I'm also considering just closing up shop and quitting making music altogether since I can't even be a "star" on an amateur song forum.  Why bother?

It's not your fault.  If it doesn't come from the heart it's no good.   Maybe most here Do think my music sucks!  That's OK.  Everybody is entitled to their opinion.
And I know some here really enjoy my stuff but not as much as I'd like.

Thanks for the time you've given me over the years.

JB

I'm so sorry.  I've been dealing with so much lately.  Please ignore my request about the jukebox.

Dude, your way off here. Your songs do quite well as far as attention goes. If you were playing at a club would you bitch at the crowd for talking...they'd eat you alive and you would deserve it. If your doing this for the adoration and some sense of appreciation your doing all of it for the wrong reasons and this certainly isn't the place for you. I never got that sense from you before and it's very strange to see this side of you now.
Also, Ray is about as close to a virtuoso musician as is on this site...and he's mighty humble. We all can and should learn from him.
Good luck John.

John - its hard to listen and review, particularly as we all live busy lives. I hope that whatever that is bringing you down, improves for you and you feel way more positive. Music is too important to us all to jack it in, and is our protective shield against life. So, continue to write and perform and record. Don't overthink things. Personally I think that its not an algorithm or a clique, or a judgement against your music, but trust me, we all understand that feeling that something is being overlooked, its completely human.

John: Songcrafters is an very friendly and welcoming place for the internet. The caveat "for the internet" is very important to remember. Believe me, here in Madagascar, sometimes I feel pretty deprived of the interpersonal, face-to-face, English language companionship my soul craves. And that can tempt me to lean on Songcrafters more than I should for a sense of connection. I post a song. I wait for the comments. Come-on Songcrafters! Give me that sweet dopamine! Two pages of comments or I'm a loser! Then I have to step back do a little metacognition – realize that I'm emotionally over-invested in this. Give myself a little perspective and try to laugh at myself. What am I? A tween craving likes and followers on TikTok?

Keep in mind that we have an entire jukebox dedicated to songs – including some really good songs – that have fewer than two comments. Just to pick one by a very active member: Here's a song from 2011 — 13 years ago — by thetworegs with only one comment!

A few months ago I set out to comment on every song that is posted – to be the kind of community member that I wish there were more of. I did okay for awhile. Then life got in the way, and I'm probably about 100 songs behind. I'm busy and stressed out. Money is tight. I don't have time to cheer you up or to cheer up anyone on this site. I don't have time to write this comment. Life happens to us all, and the amount of interaction you will see will always be variable.

My advice to you is to keep creating, to keep sharing, and to enjoy the process for what it really is: Putting your music out in the world because you have to, with no expectation or entitlement that the world will acknowledge it. And be delighted when it does, however few those acknowledgments are.

Views on pages have no relation to comments. You have various web crawlers from google and Microsoft etc scrawling pages, AI bots, web spiders etc. ie not actual listeners.
I consider myself lucky if I get one comment.
We also have a player for neglected songs. Songs with little or no comments. I have a few on there. Oh how it pains me 😂.
Songcrafters is a tiny little part of the internet, insignificant in the scale of things. However not to me and obviously not to you......................and breathe.

John, I really hope that the stuff you are dealing with gets easier. Life can be shit. Don't count or overthink comments it's bound to lead to a dark place and nobody needs that... we all are dealing with much more important and sometimes difficult stuff.

I deal with anxiety, that's my specialty :) feel free to reach out if you need to.

But on the Songcrafters side of thing. Like others have said, just enjoy making music for its own sake. Try to get to the stage of just being happy with however many comments you get. Nobody wants none obviously but even just a few on a song, well at least some people have listened

Cheers
