Just vocal & piano for this song.

Hunter's moon shining on the canal bridge
In a land on the other side of this Earth
Deals 'neath the bridge in darkness
Everything costing more than its worth
Their lies now totally unassailable
The doctors almost totally unavailable
My eyes just starting to fail a little
But I can still see the quickness of the hands
In that green and pleasant land.

Fallen angels have dumped their tattered wings
As Muhammed waits for the arrival of the mountain
New arrivals number a million or more
A million or more and counting
They're melting trophies down to make gold scimitars
The evil on the streets is limitless
Both my ears are ringing with tinnitus
But I can still hear how culture's getting canned
In that green and pleasant land.

From the cradle to the grave; the womb to the tomb
Or maybe from the erection to the resurrection
It's not clear where we stand. Which side of the fence
Gotta wait for the next election.
I've heard what they're teaching now in schools
Radical changes of old established rules
I'm no Einstein but I'm nobody's fool
Yet what's happening I don't understand
In that green and pleasant land

Great Ray.  I wonder why it sounds to me like you're singing about the USA. ;) Sad, isn't it? :(

This is great one Ray, what a wonderful piece of poetry! It doesn't need anything more then that lovely piano to back you up. The words paint a very fitting image to these uncertain times...

Those things we take for granted - when we're young and immature - will surely return to haunt us when we're old and insecure

Lyrics that are pure poetry. Piano playing that would work even on its own as an instrumental piece. The notes wave in and out like waves and the song takes it time to tell the story. The vocals are gentle and they're strangely comforting.

Beautifully realized piece of music.

Great piano. Nice full sound. A typical Ray Brookes' song. Top notch performance and production and a dose of pathos.

just a piano and your vocals is all that's needed ray. Beautiful playing. I always love the timbre of your voice. They really add so much emotion to the words. I love the lyrics and what they are telling here. ( I know what you're getting at there  ;) What a song.

Oh blimey - where do I start?  The piano - that's where I'll start.  Great playing and so tasteful.  Singing is superlative of course - but the lyrics!  I suspect they can touch everyone - well, most rational people, and not those with the loudest voice. I bet they can be applicable in most countries of the world.  They certainly are in mine. I think I'll just stay in my music room and knock up tunes.
