There is something I need to ask you
I need to know
Have you been telling me the truth
when you say you want only me?
I have reason to think
it never was as good as I thought
You say you love me but
your eyes have been growing so cold

Tell me no lies
Don't tell me what you think I want to hear
I won't compromise accepting a false hope
It's got to be real.
I can't wait my whole life through
hoping I can believe you
Let me know the truth right now.

Somehow it doesn't feel the same as it used to feel
Where has the urgency to be with me gone?
It's no longer there
Most of the time when I look into your eyes
you quickly turn away
Do I detect a trace of a tear coming forth?
You don't want to stay

Tell me no lies.
If you no longer want me you've got to say so
Please don't play this game
I can tell you no longer feel the same
I won't waste so many years hoping you're not deceiving me
Please don't tell me I'm all wrong

Tell me no lies
Don't tell me things you think I want to hear
I won't compromise.  I won't acccept your excuses
It's got to be real
I won't spend my whole life through wondering if I'm second best
You'll break my heart like all the rest

OK to cover but please let me know first.  Thanks!

love that cool keyboard shhhhhwwwwhhhh thing... that repeats... I don't think I have heard you use that before...

another lovely tune.. meanders about some big ideas and deep stuff.  Not for small minded people.  This is not 3 chord rock.  It shifts about like a mountain stream ever gaining momentum and twisting and turning as it picks up more and more flow along its route to the larger water!  The sax sounds great too... against that bass guitar.  Drums are always perfect.

the vocals absolutely 100 percent fit this wonderful piece.  solid stuff

That is some wonderfully crazy bass. I dig that Oberheimish patch as well. Wonderful vocal melodies as well.

The cool bass is stealing the show! It gives me the feel of a lead instrument. Great vocals with a killer melody. I like the way you used/mixed the strings (violins) to create a bit of tension in certain spots. Well done John!

Cool jazzy track, John. Love those melodies and chords along with those busy bass lines that work so well.

Nicely composed and hard to cover.i like the high low fluctuations.
I do have an elektic bass and guitar, i do have an acoustic guitar. I even have a keyboard and a Roland drum set What I seem to miss is skills. So to cure my at least 40y frustration I dicovered my instrument being my voice. So I finaly had the nerve to take singing lessons and make my voice heared thanks to Songcrafters.

Your bass work dances around this track like a butterfly.
Crystal clear vocal and recording.
Nice harmonies.
Love the bouncing bows on the string work.
Nice piano work.
Cool sax sound too.
There is alot going on musically in your songs.
Your a talented musician.
Nice one.

Thanks all!
That is a synth within Cakewalk called Ze3a.  One of its presets is a wicked saw tooth wave that is extremely fun to play with. I used in on a song called "Compromise" a few years back.

Always cool musical constructions JB. Always enjoy listening to your work. No exception with this song. Loving that bass.

Great song, got to echo what the others have said already. Music is played and produced masterfully. Got some great instruments in this, the synths, the horns, strings and bass and piano are excellent. Love the lyrics and vocals.
