The hound dogs are restless; they sense something in the air
The boys are crammed in the pickups; drunk and loaded up for bear
The women folk stumble, grumble, mumble moan and glare
Watch the vehicles disappear into the mist
Hey, sisters how did we come to this.

You got fast food culture, washed down with soft drink values
Peers circle like vultures ready to swoop down and nail you
Nobody here can fault ya but you know they gonna fail you
Some things can only be sorted with a fist
Hey, brothers how did we come to this.

I went and got my spider web tattoo; threw my chain-saw in the truck
Been searching the bars for a hero but I haven't had any luck
So tired I feel like passing out when I should be passing the buck
Someone somewhere has got me on their list
Hey, cousins how did we come to this.

Send me no more emails, no more texts or letters please
Half of us are on the take and the other half on our knees
I can't see the thieves for the politicians or the wood for the trees
Boxes ticked and all the babies kissed
Hey, friends how did we come to this.

Is she a Ms, a Mrs or a Miss
Everybody how did we come to this.

first off... ya gotta be really good to do all this at this level.. it would be one thing to play slide.  That is a winner here.  The harp is a winner..

the band is super...

however, the story, this ain't a novel... this is prophetic sort of .. a warning the problem is ain't nobody gonna hear...
half us on the take the other on their knees...

the lyrics are king and the vocals.  super work again Mr. Ray!

Love the houndog guitar sound. Super harp playing, of course. Great lyrics as ever and a message that gels with me. Cool rocking groove. The construction of the song keeps it interesting. Love it Ray.

This is a very good bluesy number Ray! The slide work and the blues harpin' really caught my ear. Kudos on how good the backing vocals are when they pop in. Your lyrics, with a message, and vocals are top shelf. Well done!

Djeez if I would only have 5% of your skills I would be happy as a king.
Well done for the whole arrangement.
I do have an electric bass and guitar, i do have an acoustic guitar. I even have a keyboard and a Roland drum set What I seem to miss is skills. So to cure my at least 40y frustration I dicovered my instrument being my voice. So I finaly had the nerve to take singing lessons and make my voice heared thanks to Songcrafters.

Another classy blues track Ray. The harp, slide guitar and lyrics are so good. You're like a modern day Dylan, I wish I could write lyrics like that. ( and play all those instruments as good too haha).
A great song with a catchy chorus.
I have 2 profiles on this site, (NOW COMBINED INTO ONE PROFILE PAGE)
One is a musical partnership with Keith Allen, ( we record songs as "The Devil's Toupee").
The 2nd one is for my other musical projects and collaborations. (DarrenG)
Thanks for listening.

Seriously... Do you think we'd be obsessed over the property status of our females if we hadn't started farming, sedentizing, specializing, stratifying, politicizing, dogmatizing, mechanizing, etc.?

Great lyrics, and a great groove. Members have already mentioned the slide guitar and the harp playing. But the unsung hero, the secret sauce of this song is that funky single-note guitar line over on the left.

Those things we take for granted - when we're young and immature - will surely return to haunt us when we're old and insecure

How indeed!  I love this - of course.  I got the funky guitar line instantly too.  Lyrically incredibly impressive.

I was thinking about maybe doing some slide on a song.  I don't dare now.  I'll stick to whammy bar widdling where I belong!   ;)
