Bon, une petite note de  commentaires pour les non familiers de la musique francophones ;)

Uncle JP's stories

Well...you're going to say weird...a song by pop rock band Indochine, single from their 2002 album Paradize.

On its release, the album went straight to No. 3 in the best-seller charts, and surprised programmers by giving the song J'ai demandé à la lune extensive radio airplay. In the face of this unexpected success, the media once again presented Indochine as France's rock benchmark, forgetting that they had scorned the band throughout the 1990s, calling them "a sinister old-fashioned escapee from the 1980s".
However, the band's notoriety and success with teenagers in the 90s led to them being caricatured by Les Inconnus in one of their sketches broadcast on the TV show La Télé des Inconnus in 1990. They parodied the group2 in a deliberately dumbed-down new-wave song, with Isabelle sporting blue eyes, adopting the typical look of those years and mimicking the attitudes associated with them.
Personally, over the decades I've stayed away from their work...I just remember their first song, "l'aventurier", which recounted the adventures of the teen novel character "Bob Morane"...I loved the adventures of Bob Morane...🙂 created in December 1953 by Belgian novelist Henri Vernes for the "Marabout Junior" paperback collection...

Under the guise of a song a little gnan gnan (even a lot in my opinion), exegetes have found double meanings in this song
The song is said to describe the band's situation... They explain that the moon represents the music producers, the sun represents the media and the burns represent the bad situation Indochine found itself in before the album's release.
Note that the song j'ai demandé à la lune was not written by Indochine, but by Mickael Furnon in 1994, lead singer of Mickey 3D.

J'ai demandé à la lune
Et le soleil ne le sait pas
Je lui ai montré mes brûlures
Et la lune s'est moquée de moi
Et comme le ciel n'avait pas fière allure
Et que je ne guérissais pas
Je me suis dit "quelle infortune"
Et la lune s'est moquée de moi
J'ai demandé à la lune
Si tu voulais encore de moi
Elle m'a dit "j'ai pas l'habitude"
"De m'occuper des cas comme ça"
Et toi et moi
On était tellement sûrs
On était tellement sûrs
Et on se disait quelquefois
Que c'était juste une aventure
Et que ça ne durerait pas, ah-ah-ah

tranlation

I asked the moon
And the sun doesn't know
I showed her my burns
And the moon laughed at me
And the sky didn't look so good
And I wasn't healing
I said to myself "what a misfortune"
And the moon laughed at me
I asked the moon
If you still wanted me
She said "I'm not in the habit"
"Of taking on cases like this"
And you and I
We were so sure
And sometimes we told each other
That it was just a fling
And it wouldn't last
I don't have much to tell you
And not much to make you laugh
Cause I always imagine the worst
And the best makes me suffer
I asked the moon
If you still wanted me
She said, "I'm not in the habit
Of dealing with cases like this".
And you and I
We were so sure
And sometimes we told each other
That it was just a fling
And it wouldn't last, ah-ah-ah
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Great accordion sounds. Is it an actual accordion?

You are right. It is a weird song. And another song by a band complaining about their record company? That seems to be a genre unto itself.

This song sounded familiar, and now I remember where I'd heard it before: My daughter! She used to listen to this version a year or more ago. French used to be her primary language, until I corrupted her with American English.

yes Ted, in fact this song, which has a "nursery rhyme" quality, was covered by a group of children in France...

is it an real accordion?

No, and yes in fact it"s a Usertrack i.e. a realtrack made by a Band in a Box user with samples recorded from a real instrument (like BIAB's realtracks, which are recorded by musicians (most often studio musicians from Nashville),...then the BIAB software takes care of using these realtracks (or usertracks) according to a grid you make.

in the audio file it's the highlighted section that's playedwhen you do  Dm  F,  C , Bb

I often use this accordion usertrack which is quite well done and realistic but only produces chords, so I often complete it with a melodic line with my Melodica ....my dream would be to have a bandoneon, my wife disagrees she thinks that 17 guitar, a fiddle, a banjo 8 harmonica, a madoline 2 ukulele, an autoharp ... that's enough as it is.  ;D

Thanks for the answer. I too have always wanted a concertina – but the modified kind used in South African music.

There's an accordion tradition here in Madagascar, but I don't personally know any players. It wouldn't be hard to find one if I wanted someone to record with me. The problem might be communication. I'd need to find someone who speaks French. It's possible that most traditional Malagasy accordion players only speak Malagasy, and very limited French. I won't know unless I ask around.

this is smokin good JP... wow man you are ascending into new heights every day!  Bravo man... I applaud in awe.  This sound wonderful and full of desire, passion, love, and hope.  Some real desire for life in here... I don't know many musicians who can be this brutally honest in a track... it is sub conscious but real non the less.  Very intimate... draws the listener right to the heart of the deliverer... I think it might be a date (rape) drug... I am just joking but this is like that JP... you should put a warning on the thread.... CAUTION:  HYPNOTIC AND MESMERIZING.  YOU COULD BE IN A SPELL.
