Madureira is a popular district of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. It's a poor, lively, dense and festive district.
Dario Moreno (1921-1968) became famous for his tribute to the neighbourhood in this song, recorded in 1958:

The melody of 'La Rua Madureira' is based on the theme of a piece by guitarist Antonio Carlo Jobim, which he himself borrowed from Chopin's Prelude No. 4 and which, according to fans of 'Les demoiselles de Rochefort', still sounds like Andy's song as performed by Gene Kelly in the film. Borrowed or not, it doesn't matter if half a century later the song retains its charm intact.
This dramatic story of a love shattered in a Caravelle crash is only fiction. When Nino Ferrer recorded "La Rua Madureira", the Caravelle was the flagship of French industry. One of the most advanced and safest aircraft of its time, despite some sad episodes such as the disappearance of flight 1611 Ajaccio Nice on 11 September 1968, which could have inspired the author of the song.
