Further Fodder for Flying Fathers (FFFF)

I've been listening to this a lot and it is quite complex, but that's to be expected with your approach to guitar with all those complex little lines and Gabriel's non-conventional approach to vox, all of which help make Bolder Park a unique proposition.

Overall, it's great, I'd suggest a couple of tweaks:

- I would drop the guitar in the left hand channel when the vocals start. It comes in very abruptly and overpowers them IMO. You can just let everything build up when the bass comes in.

- The vocals in the first part of the song are a little lost. Not badly or a major issue but when the rhythm guitars start in the chorusy bit the vox are just a bit buried. When they come back in after the guitar solo, they are much clearer for the rest of the song. So whatever you do after that solo, I'd suggest do it before as well. And if there's no difference, I must be mad. Perhaps it's just a balance thing - try to get the balance level of the vo
x as you have just after the guitar solo.

- Guitar solo in the middle could come up a bit.

Apart from that, I would say it's pretty much there and I love it! Great stuff.

Thanks Nigel, I agree with you on all accounts. I've been swamped so I might not get to it for a while.

Q: Does anyone think the drums might be too much at times? It could just be me.

I like the layered complexity - it makes for a great listen!!  Was that a jet engine in the back ground at the end - I may have missed my flight...

David Bowie meets Rolling Stones - pretty cool!! - but I couldn't make out the lyrics at all...

It could be just you. They sound fine to me but I like big bass and clattery drums. Overall, this is sounding really good, another Bolder Park killer.

BTW, I meant to say that Gabriel's voice reminds me of David Surkamp from Pavlov's Dog. Not quite the same but similar in that they both have a high register with a very unique sound. Pavlov's Dog were a fairly obscure but quite unique proggy US band from the mid 70s, and worth checking out just to hear the vocals.

Cheers,

Nigel

What can I say just an excellent track, can,t comment on the techy side of this but I would try and clean up the vox and bring them slightly forward. That apart really top quailty.

Erik!  I totally owe you an e-mail -- coming soon, I promise!

You know I LOVE this song. ;D :o ;D  Completely!  Your guitar playing and the style is fucking phenomenal.  I also like the crazy beats you put to this song.  The mix could use a tad bit of cleaning up in the loud parts.  The bass should also be louder -- the song is almost over, and I just now realized it had a bass part.  Did you do the bassline?  I love it!

You know how I feel about the vox.  I will say that I like that he took most of the super-fast chorus effects off his voice.  Perhaps this is how Bolder Park is meant to sound, and if so, there is nothing wrong with that.  I can easily see millions of people absolutely LOVING this music.  Modest Mouse is pretty damned successful, and I get that vibe from the vocals.  I just tend to imagine more melodic singing to go along with your incredibly melodic playing.  But it's only one man's opinion!

John, I know you're busy mixing/mastering your album, so take your time on the e-mail.

I'm glad you like the drums, Gabriel actually added the drums to the mix.

I wrote the bassline, and yes, it needs to be brought up in the mix.

Gabriel has cleaned up the vox quite a bit, I think it sounds much better, but he still needs a new mic.

This piece still needs allot of work for sure, but I've been pretty busy with my art.... music is taking a backseat for now as I have a chance to make some money off my artwork, which I desperately need. If I ever make any money off of my music it will be in the distant future.

thanks for the feedback.
