Yes, I think the stripped down version works. The power is in the emotion and the lyrics, rather than the arrangement. It could easily get a bit too slushy. I think your strings worked well here, and they are nicely done.

I still personally prefer songs about crazed ventriloquist dummies though, although I guess that probably shows I am trying to hide from my emotions

This is a nice mellow tune. Very "Lennon-ish". Quite different from other stuff I've heard on this board.

It has a really  "airy" quality.

GNY - As you will be aware, the UK Food-Faddists now insist that we include 5-Greens a day in our diet. Well, very appropriately for me, one of your songs will be ONE of my Greens. (Please thank your Parents for meeting). I first listened to this just after joining this Forum, and thought, 'Oh sh*t, StevieB, you're outta your depth here.'
Then I stuck around, and began to see that everyone was actually pulling in the same direction: Upwards. Everyone was encouraging and helping each other to try and reach the level of sophistication found in this song. Where else would you find people of differing musical backgrounds and abilities discussing a love song with a Latin title? (Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest).

The Best accolade I can pay you in relationship to this song, is that I don't think John Lennon would have been embarrassed to include it on one of his solo albums.
I will be downloading it to my BR-MP3 folder when I return to my Gaff.
