Syracuse is probably Henry Salvador's best-known song
lyrics by Bernard DIMEY

For musician friends a very good musical analysis of the 1962 version with guitar and vocals
https://osonslaguitarejazz.com/2021/09/23/syracuse-version-guitare-et-chant-de-1962/

the original key of the song is Dflat
For the guitar part, I played the Roland Dyens version with an unusual tuning to respect the original key
Db Ab D G B E

ah oui the lyrics translate
I'd so like to see Syracuse

Easter Island and Kairouan
And the great birds that play
Sliding their wings in the wind
To see the gardens of Babylon
And the palace of the great Lama
Dreaming of the lovers of Verona
On top of Fuji-Yama
To see the land of the morning calm
Fishing for cormorants
And get drunk on palm wine
Listening to the wind sing
Before my youth wears out
And my springs are gone
I'd so like to see Syracuse
To remember it in Paris

The song evokes a world tour, with exotic dream destinations including Syracuse, Easter Island, Kairouan, the gardens of Babylon, the palace of the Great Lama, the lovers of Verona, the summit of Fujiyama, the Land of the Morning Calm, cormorant fishing, palm wine, and Paris... "It tells the imaginary story of an exotic change of scenery in dream places where Dimey (the autor of the lyrics), in the end, will never go (and many others guys...like me :(

That was so good JP. What a beautiful piece and played with real sensitivity. Yes and those places we will never see. Sad but nice to dream! :D

We have agreed at home here the 2 of us will go on two dream holidays before we get too old. Mine is not really very far... just a trip to Galicia or Asturias in the north of Spain. I am fascinated by the fact it has celtic origins but is in Spain and also sounds like a lovely climate. Her good self wants to visit somewhere much further. Either Japan or South Korea I think.

yes, Mike the Asturie and the north of Spain is a beautiful destination... and there are Celtic ancestors in the north of Spain... just like in Savoie where I am (the Allobroges)

and to get back to the north of Spain, don't miss a semi-desert region called "Los Bardenas reales", south of Pamplona.
I had made a music video about this amazing region, I've reloaded it because it had gone down with my first You tube channel
