Yep... I love CCR, and they have some real gems to choose from. I also like Ike and Tina Turner's version of 'Proud Mary' a lot. Do you know it? Starts slow then kicks ass in a big way...!  :)

Good reason to finally get The Weight started; I'm sure I can get some help on the vox.

Calling dibs isn't really necessary. It's okay if several people cover the same song. As we saw in the NeilFest, this isn't a problem and each version of a song was quite unique. So choose any songs you like and don't worry about other people choosing the same songs.

I think original songs about Woodstock should be allowed too. Articles like the one Hooper posted could provide lots of inspiration for lyrics. Or watch the movie for more inspiration.

Well, I cannot wait to see what this produces. I know it will be a completely successful event. Without excuses, I haven't been in the other fests, but I sure did follow, especially the blues fest. Hopefully I can get some fire together to get something down for this one. I cannot wait to see what everyone throws together.

Glad you said this 64 - I was wondering how it works.

In that case (didn't want it to sound like I was "calling dibs" :D), I can let you all know what I've got my eye on - this has the added effect of motivating me to get off my @rse to actually do them because I've mentioned it in public!!

I see that John Sebastian did "Darling be home soon" - it's been one of my favourite songs for years. I actually know/prefer the Slade version better - so who knows what'll happen!

And I find that Janis Joplin did her cover of "To Love Somebody". Well, I've already been looking at recording a whole bunch of the songs that got me going when I was 14-16... and they're all late 60s, early 70s, Bee Gees songs :D. I've always imagined this is one of the easier ones for me to do.

After that, I'll see what pans out :)

I've had a look at that one too. For me, it was because of the awesome Gram Parsons version of it. It's pretty straightforward guitar-wise (I've already nailed the chords), and it's one hell of a song. Those Bee Gees sure know how to write a tune. Islands in the Stream is another one of theirs I have the highest regard for.

I've decided to start with something a little more left-field though... lol

Me too! I love both versions of the song but especially Slade's.

That's one thing I like about the Woodstock song list as it applies to our Boss BR Woodstock Festival. There were actually quite a few covers done at Woodstock. So, even in the unlikely case that you didn't like any of the artists who performed at Woodstock, you can choose from many songs by absent artists which were covered. For example, if you're a Beatles fan, you could do "With a Little Help from My Friends", "Strawberry Fields Forever", or "Hey Jude" (covered by Richie Havens and Joe Cocker). There are also covers of songs by Bob Dylan, Tom Paxton, Simon & Garfunkel, T-Bone Walker, Jack Bruce, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, The Byrds, Big Mama Thornton, Wilson Pickett, Ray Charles, The Four Tops, Eddie Cochran, Leon Russell, Traffic, Al Kooper, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, and more.
