Quote from: 64Guitars on July 17, 2009, 02:04:20 PMI'm glad that everyone's getting into the spirit and enjoying the festival. I'm having a lot of fun with it and really digging the far out music!

I was just looking through some hippy images on Google and came across the following, which I thought was pretty funny...

Great looking page, 64! We all appreciate your efforts.

I remember almost going with a friend, on bicycles. A few hours bike ride from where I lived at the time. Of course we probably would have gotten there before most of the cars. LOL! I was 16, and me (and my parents) thought better of it.

I don't think I have time right now to learn and record a new cover right now, but I reviewed the set list, and I do have a cover of one that I recorded a few years ago. Is that cheating, or can I post it as a Woodstock Festival cover?

There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Previously-recorded Woodstock songs are fine, especially if they were recorded on a BR. If not, you can post them under Other recorders/Post your work.

The more, the merrier!

By the way, the festival runs till August 17th. So don't feel you have to learn and record a Woodstock song this weekend. There's still more than four weeks left to work on a song and post it. No pressure. I just wanted to make it clear that the festival has only just started and there's still lots of time left for those who are interested in doing a Woodstock song.

I don't know if it's accurate, but I found this list of Cancelled Acts and Declined Invitations here:

http://digitaldreamdoor.nutsie.com/pages/music0_woodstock.html

Cancelled Acts

  • Jeff Beck Group (The band broke up in July, forcing cancellation)
  • Iron Butterfly (Stuck at the airport, their manager demanded helicopters and special arrangements just for them. Were wired back and told, as impolitely as Western Union would allow, "to get lost", but in other 'words'.)
  • Joni Mitchell (Joni's agent put her on "The Dick Cavett Show" instead)
  • Lighthouse (Feared that it would be a "bad scene".)
  • Ethan Brown (Arrested for LSD three days before the event.)

Declined Invitations

  • The Beatles (John Lennon said he couldn't get them together)
  • Led Zeppelin (Got a higher paying gig elsewhere)
  • Bob Dylan (Turned it down because of his disgust of the hippies hanging around his house)
  • The Byrds (Turned it down because of a melee during their performance at the first Atlanta International Pop Festival, held at the Atlanta International Raceway on July 4 and July 5, 1969)
  • Tommy James & the Shondells (Turned it down because of being misinformed about the size and scope of the event)
  • Jethro Tull (Turned it down because they thought it wouldn't be a big deal.)
  • The Moody Blues (Unknown reasons)
  • Mind Garage (Declined because they thought it wouldn't be a big deal and had a higher paying gig elsewhere)

Ethan who?  ;D  I imagine his music career would have turned out quite differently if he hadn't been arrested.

This page has a similar list, but with a few more details:
