"The Heart of the Matter" is a song recorded by American rock singer Don Henley from his third solo studio album, The End of the Innocence (1989). Written by Henley, Mike Campbell, and J. D. Souther.

This song is dedicated to all the lovers of our world, who, for some reason or another, lost the flame and the kindness of love!!!
This song is also dedicated to all troubled peoples asking and searching for forgiveness, in their paths toward peace and contentment!!!

And more importantly, this song is for all the people in our lives that has the ability to forgive.

Choose to love, do forgive, for one's healthy propagation of good in mind and spirit!!!

Feedback is much appreciated.  Thank you.

I have been a big fan of Henley's music... obviously one of the US greats for sure...

this is extra special job Rene!  That whole album was good too...
and you have done the cover very, very well...
but it doesn't surprise me... I doubt I would have the guts to try something like this...

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

Great song, and a great rendition. Maybe my favorite Henley song.
Nice playing and heartfelt vocal.
There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

I don't know this tune, I think I will check out the album tomorrow if I remember. Very nicely done Rene. It sounds like this could be a tricky one to do justice to but you have done a teriffic job here.

What a beautiful rendition of this song! I love the intimate atmosphere of your recordings, you always have such a crystal clear sound and wonderful vocals on every song you cover. Way to go Rene!

...I can't say better than Bp

One day as you always do duets vocals/guitar, I would try to add a track of Weissenborn guitar on one of your songs ;)
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

A great cover version. I love your vocals and that acoustic guitar is beautiful.

I didn't know Campbell or Souther had anything to do with this tune.

I actually prefer the sparse instrumentation of this version. I am going to suggest this version to John for our next gig.
