I had a short Gainsbourg moment today.

The original version is Je Suis Venu Te Dire Que Je M'en Vais and there's an english version by Mick Harvey (which i don't like that much).

Instead of keeping it as it was... I turned it into a goth song. I was going to add synths, but instead kept the guitar scratch tracks.

I might revisit with synths...

Yeah synths baby.....big fat Gary Numan synths would finish this off nicely

although  I love that chuggy, chimy, rhythm guitar...

I can deal with this as is... but I am sure you can make it better or different..

but I really love that guitar.... the only thing that would be better is when I hear it in both ears...

it is like the guitars are singing too.

Beautiful song choice, I dont know much about Gainsbourg but this track totally works as a Cure type song. I love the subtle guitar work in here, very tasteful parts.

after hearing the orig and a cover that I thought were good...coming back now again... I really love this more...
that guitar and bass sound so great against those pummeling drums.... and those vocals... maybe a bit gruff... but I really like them...you are one talented man!

I realize I have said this before but you have elements of Billy Idol, The guy from Simple Minds, and Jim Morrison... pretty potent stuff...

Another great Gainsbourg cover - sounds pretty complete to my ears, but I could imagine it with synths added, too.

Mick Harvey's Intoxicated Man was my introduction to Serge Gainsbourg - some of his covers were quite good, but it didn't take me long after that to find the great man himself.

Lemon Incest next?  ;D

I live thus as it is.  If you opt for the synths, I would be subtle or perhaps create some variation with the song structure. I personally wouldn't want them to detract from the excellent guitar work here.

Great post. I love this site.

Very well sung. I find amazing how you touch a song, change it a lot, and the song still works.
It checks very well on the "goth checklist" - the driving bass (I am biased, but I would like to listen to the bass more boosted), the backing guitars, the uptempo drum machine, and the dark voice (yours fits very well).

Man, you have a future, either as a female singer or a Nick Cave clone!
