The priest intoned the words
His soul now safe to keep
As they lowered his casket
For his eternal sleep
We stood at the graveside
Beneath a foreboding sky
And right at that moment
I caught the widow's eye.

Family and friends
Earlier at the wake
Hot tea and brandy
Cold sandwiches and cake
And I wondered about my brother
As a good a man as you or I
And I looked across the room
And caught the widow's eye.

I'd always had my own thoughts
About Harrington's choice of a wife
And I could not believe
The man would take his own life
I saw the open casket
The pennies on his eyes
And I knew something was wrong
When I caught the widow's eye.

No more than a year had passed
I saw her walk through town
Another man at her side
Her face towards the ground
What goes around comes around
She'll get hers by and by
And I will remember
The day I caught the widow's eye.

Moody, spooky, and foreboding. But in context the most ominous part is that last chord – resolving to a hopeful major chord. You psychopath!

for a short story song you sure nailed the point exactly.  Yes, the music fits the story line perfectly.  The black widow spider kills the one's she mates with...

maybe there could be a story of how she died in a hunting accident....

this is intense Ray!  well done

This is amazing ray. This should be a soundtrack in a film. Love the choir it sounds perfect. and that ominous synth tone.
Great lyrics.
I have 2 profiles on this site, (NOW COMBINED INTO ONE PROFILE PAGE)

Back for another listen through decent cans this time.  I really love this - right from the plaintive call of the Uilleann pipes - which I assume are sampled?.  I would love to know which library.  First class story telling - disturbing but totally engrossing.

Sparse but perfect instrumentation which captures the bleakness of the tale.

I shall listen to this again.

Cool pipe sound on the intro. Morose, unsurprisingly given the subject matter. Great title and lyrics. Another polished song Ray.

Rene Asologuitar

Agree with Ron, very nice pipes on intro!!!
Vocals is so convincing, you are a very talented storyteller!
Your compositions are so original, you are a true artist!!!
Love this production.

Wow brother now you need to do a sequel on the widows view of things. The sparse instrumentation of the track really adds to the mood

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away
