Four Strong Winds
written by Ian Tyson in the early 1960s
recorded by Neil Young on his 1978 album "Comes a Time"

Now thats good stuff.  Great frigging version.  Sounds like Jeff Tweedy singing back in the Uncle Tupelo days doing this.  Really great.  This is for sure a Neilfest song.  Great interpretation.

I'm not familiar with the song either, but I like it, and you did a great job! Very good performance. I like the use of delay on the voice.

There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

YOu know in all honesty, the only Neil Young song I had heard was Heart of Gold.  How enlightening is this site. I did not know the guy had so many great songs. It has been very enlightening for me.  And a wonderful listen * download of many great songs.  And welcome guitar_ on BakK   Jeeze you really need an easier name. Nice interpretation of a classic Canadian folk song, guitar_on_bakk!

I was wondering that too. But, what the heck. Neil's version is pretty well known.

For those who said they've never heard it, "Four Strong Winds" is one of the best-known Canadian folk songs ever. It was written by Ian Tyson who recorded it with his wife, Sylvia Fricker in the early sixties. It reached the Top 10 on the Canadian charts in 1963. Neil Young covered it on his 1978 album "Comes A Time". He also sang it at The Last Waltz concert on November 25th, 1976. I don't think the recording made it onto the Last Waltz soundtrack album or the movie, but it's in the 4-disc box set.

Neil does a great cover of it, but I've always liked the Ian & Sylvia version best. Sylvia was such a great harmony vocalist.

Here's Neil's version from "Comes A Time" with Nicollette Larson on harmony vocals:
