i've got to come up with a way to strap the mbr to a stand-i'm not using the built in mic unless i hold it-which can sometimes give  uneven levels

Yes, the stairs are one of my fav places to play in my house- for the sound of course. I move around a lot and this setup works great for that.
I bought the $5 sony and position it vertically as (almost) shown in the picture. It picks up the vox from the upper mic and the guitar from the lower side with a very natural separation yet with some bleed-over on the V trax.

Yeah Velcro is the way to go, now that I know this is so useful.
