Can we dissociate the man from the artist and his work?

..a subject of philosophy of the Baccalaureat (.. equivalent in France of the High school diploma ?)

Bertrant Cantat is a French author, composer, performer and musician
Singer of the group "Noir Désir" He met a great success between 1980 and 2000
Since 2002, he had an affair with the actress Marie Trintignant
On July 27, 2003, during an argument in their hotel room in Vilnius in Lithuania (where the actress plays in the TV movie Colette, a free woman), Bertrand Cantat hit her several times, following a fall she fell into a coma and died on August 1, 2003
Bertrant Canta is judged in Lithuania for violence leading to death without intention to give it
Convicted, he will serve his sentence in Lithuania, before being released in 2010
He resumed a chaotic musical and artistic actvity, his shows being regularly disrupted by demonstrators and feminist opponents 'association Osez le féminisme', as during his concert at Zenith in 2018
Bertrand Cantat develops a personal and poetic writing inspired by Baudelaire, Mallarmé, Lautréamont, Rimbaud and Maïakovski.

For my part without particularly appreciating this artist, I like this song..especially for the use in this version of my flute (Low wisthle in D)  ;)

Je n'ai pas peur de la route
Faudrait voir, faut qu'on y goûte
Des méandres au creux des reins
Et tout ira bien là
Le vent nous portera

Ton message à la Grande Ourse
Et la trajectoire de la course
Un instantané de velours
Même s'il ne sert à rien va
Le vent l'emportera
Tout disparaîtra mais
Le vent nous portera

La caresse et la mitraille
Et cette plaie qui nous tiraille
Le palais des autres jours
D'hier et demain
Le vent les portera

Génetique en bandouillère
Des chromosomes dans l'atmosphère
Des taxis pour les galaxies
Et mon tapis volant dis ?
Le vent l'emportera
Tout disparaîtra mais
Le vent nous portera

Ce parfum de nos années mortes
Ce qui peut frapper à ta porte
Infinité de destins
On en pose un et qu'est-ce qu'on en retient?
Le vent l'emportera

Pendant que la marée monte
Et que chacun refait ses comptes
J'emmène au creux de mon ombre
Des poussières de toi
Le vent les portera
Tout disparaîtra mais
Le vent nous portera

traduction

I'm not afraid of the road
We should see, we should taste it
Meanders in the hollow of the kidneys
And everything will be fine there
The wind will carry us

Your message to the Big Dipper
And the trajectory of the race
A velvet snapshot
Even if it's useless
The wind will carry it away
Everything will disappear but
The wind will carry us

The caress and the machine gun
And this wound which pulls us
The palace of other days
Of yesterday and tomorrow
The wind will carry them

Genetics in bandolier
Chromosomes in the atmosphere
Cabs for the galaxies
And my flying carpet ?
The wind will carry it away
Everything will disappear but
The wind will carry us

That scent of our dead years
What can knock at your door
Infinity of destinies
We set one down and what do we hold on to?
The wind will carry it away

As the tide rises
And each one of us makes up his mind
I take in the hollow of my shadow
Dust of you
The wind will carry them
Everything will disappear but
The wind will carry usLE  VENT L EMPORTERA.en MP3.mp3
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Hi Jean,
The song is very nice, and I love it.
This is another one that I am not familiar with.
Your translation has very good lyrics and the message is very true.
Your instrumentation is lovely and truly do justice to this classic.

Hook

Interesting topic we havent really discussed on SC but lots of examples in Rock history. R. Kelly is of course on trial right now...again. Micheal Jackson is one I think about because I love Thriller and his duets with Macca but if he did abuse those boys??? Frank Zappa I struggle with because I love his music but his misogyny is pretty infamous.
Might be a good topic for the general discussion board.
Wonderful song though.
Rock on!

Because the Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

yes it's true Hook, it's an interesting subject, there are many unfortunate examples of this duality personality / public work in the artistic field: literature, cinema, music...

Jean, you've done it again! You're a national treasure :) Your french vocals really make me hope i'd taken french language studies instead of german. Then i could have almost flunked with both languages :D

All kidding aside. I really like your voice and vocals here. They take me to a certain places that is rooted inside my brain. I've heard french language songs all my life, but for some reason i heard them more while growing up. It might have something to do with the fact that i don't listen to radio anymore, and the way radio have changed. The times have changed.

This is a really moody piece of music and very enjoyable!

Can we dissociate the man from the artist and his work? Yes we (i) can! I don't want to know what actors, musicians etc. do, or think that much. There are some really troubled souls that have made great art. And there are probably even more people with "angel wings" that are appreciated, and are horrid dirge in the shadows... So yes.
