It's the time of the touch-screens
The motherboards and crystals
The lip-synching phoneys
The 15-minute minstrels
The time of the politically correct
ADHD and allergies
The apex predators
And strong market strategies
And at the core of it all
The scramble for dollars and cents
While you and I stroll like lovers
Between the tombstones of common sense.

The time of the repressed
Now doing the repressing
So many complaining
Yet no-one addressing
The time of the social media
But nothing of substance
The time of fake news
And bullshit in abundance
And the excuses for the turmoil
Always leans towards self defence
While you and I roll a joint
Leaning against the tombstones of common sense.

The time of deceptive ones
Changing colours like the cuttlefish
The time of the invisible
Causing suffering from a petri dish
The time of the left wings
Black yellow and brown
The gurus and the nationalists
And the Pennywise clowns
Now the whole world is in debt to someone
The atmosphere getting tense
While you and I scrawl graffiti
Over the tombstones of common sense.

Hi Ray,
I love your lyrics.
This one is very original, very current, very true.
Sadly, there are many believers in these mind twisting strategies, while conspirators are making bucko money and zero care for the world and their neighbors.
Keep 'em coming, Ray!!!
Respectfully,
Rene

OMG what a beautiful and thought-provoking message. Beautiful guitars, bass, and you voice that has such a wonderful timbre, it sits right in that melody pocket with perfection.

You remind me of a cross between James Taylor and Neil Diamond.

Beautiful song. Going in for another listen.

Mike

I grabbed a download - thank you!

Great lyric. Echoing my sentiments. Always great songwriting from you Ray. Another cool one here!

You're hitting so many home runs with your songs that it usually takes time before i feel ready to comment on them :) At first i thought i know it all, but hearing Rays compositions and learning about his keen sense of all the finer aspects of songwriting has pushed me further back in the class, and just enjoy the music (and occasionally yell rude remarks).

The lyrics are once again the key. Ray is a master craftsman at lyrics. A real storyteller. This can sometimes even overshadow his equally strong abilities with other areas in songwriting. But that's a great cross to bear... Being able to choose which crayons to use from the toolbox.
