Watched my boy grow into a man
Watched him head off to Afghanistan
They made him hard; they made him tough
But enough is never enough is never enough.

Drill instructors brutal and cruel
This uniform never meant for fools
Taught him how to play mean and rough
But enough is never enough is never enough.

They're fighting us over what we can't see
Not real estate but ideology
My boy comes back in a plastic bag
Three shots in salute and a folded flag

Pastor offers spiritual guidance
To the mother and I as we sit in silence
We got his photos, his medals and stuff
But enough is never enough is never enough.

For starters, I hope this isn't a personal story. If so, my sincere condolences. That said, this song pulled a lot of heart strings and being of a reggae feel, added the protest vibe so familiar to the genre. Quite the contrast between foot tapping rhythm and soulful sorrows. A timeless classic to be sure. :r2

So many tasty things going on. I especially like the 'boing-y' base, and the tone and playing of the lead guitar is superb. Top notch performance and production as we would expect, and another The excellent and poignant lyric. Reggae really suits you, but I have a feeling you could turn your hand to anything.

Hi Ray,
I am with "hardlock".
Timely song for Memorial Day weekend.
Remembering and thanking all peoples who gave the ultimate sacrifice for peace and defend of nation.  Thank you to all our service men and women!!!
Lovely guitar solo in between the verses.
Beautifully crafted lyrics.
I can actually feel the respect, love and sadness in the guitar solos.
Love this, Ray!!!

As Hardlock said, I hope this isn't something you've personally encountered and I'm very sorry if you did.  The lyrics are very heartfelt.  The music adds just the touch.

Enjoyed the reggae style ray, didn't expect that. It sounds great. Great music and songwriting as we all expect now. Love the themes of songs you always write about. Excellent mate.

Emotional song and great instrumentation and production!  Outside the box choice of reggae rhythm for this type of song. I particularly like the drums, lead guitar, and organ parts - so tasty and well done and recorded.  Everything has perfect volume in the mix too.
