Livin' Dyin' Blues - FULL-MIX

I'll never be done with this number so better post before I wreck it.... "It's two - two songs in one"...

I couldn't expand either well enough to be their own songs so used the swing one for the chorus and the ballad for the verse.

I'll let the experts decide if it's even worthy of being called a blues song.  ::)

Living - Dying Blues (c) 2022 K.J.Hill
Chorus
Don't know if I'm livin'
         Don't know if I'm dyin'
Only know that when you're gone
I can not stop this cryin'
--------------------------------------------------------
You don't know if you're comin'
You don't know if you're goin'
Maybe you should call your hand
so I can see what's showin"
=====================================
Verse 1
Every night I lay here fretting
         Hoping I won't start forgettin'
that the good times that we've had
won't end up more I'll be regrettin'
--------------------
Must we have to be so down
When if we try we will not drown
And better ourselves to be content
so not to have to ever repent
--------------------
I swear I'll never find a way
         to understand your mind's transactions
Hope to make it through a day
         without a major over-reaction
=====================================
Chorus repeat
=====================================
Verse 2
Just can not keep playing this game
Always ends up exactly the same
You say one thing then do another
Maybe it's time that we recover
--------------------
There is no rest for the weary
So it's hard to not be dreary
No good deed goes unpunished
If I'm wrong I'd be astonished
--------------------
Don't have long for this world
I hear them calling my name
Hope the next one's better you see
And not just more of the same

Those things we take for granted - when we're young and immature - will surely return to haunt us when we're old and insecure

DarrenG / The Devil's Toupee

I think the two styles work great together and sound really nice. Love the chorus, like that piano, the bass and drums are great and the blues guitar sounds cool. Great lyrics and vocals too.

that opening bass riff is great...can't wait to hear that again.  I like the way this meanders from the toe tapping blues rock into that soft mellowy song sort of like Bruce Hornsby....

the running bass in the rocky sections are wonderful...

I don't really do genre but I go by if the song makes me feel something ... this is really nice and has lots of great moments...toe tapping to making me close my eyes and dream I am flying through the air...pretty good I would say.  The vocals blend into the music as part of the music and i am totally ok with that..
I did read the lyrics as I generally do...they fit

Ken, I've been looking forward to hearing what you did with the original melody. The two songs fit together like puzzle pieces. Great work there! I like the contrast of the boogie style blues chorus with the ballad style verses. Good words and vocal. The piano and guitar playing are cool. Well done with it all!

Because the Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

Ray Brookes

Great musicianship here and the two tunes meld together very nicely. Both sections are great in their own right, Ken and if it works who cares about pigeon-hole genres as long as it sounds good.

I am enjoying this tune.
Love your guitar playing, and the piano is very nice as well.

Sounds pretty bluesy to me on that opening section, then a nice dynamic shift to something more Springsteen-y for the middle part. The piano hook is superb, and your vocal fits very nicely throughout - full of character. Plenty of tasty guitar licks too.

godinqc

Great song, I really liked the tempo change between the verse and chorus.
Guitar/piano/bass work was really good and so is the vocals
Great work
