I dreamed I saw the ghost of Eleanor
Standing on the surface of the lake
Draped only in the twists of the morning mist
As I tried and tried to awake
Not a man who drew breath has ever lived
Without making at least one mistake
Haunted by the ghost of Eleanor.

Her skin so pale, bleached and scaled
By bramble, thicket and by thorn
Her eyes black within her. The pointing finger
Accusing in the light of dawn
Her belly so white and swollen,
Still with the child that was never to be born.
Haunted by the ghost of Eleanor.

In a fitful fight on a wild night
In anger that one mistake made
Eleanor my wife I took her life
With the single cut of a rusty blade.
And now she haunts me, torments and taunts me
From where I hid her in the lake
Her ghost appears and no wonder as I lay in my slumber
And have no means to awake
Even though I'm convinced the child was not mine
I had no right their lives to take
Haunted by the ghost of Eleanor.

Wow!  Haunting story from a masterful songwriter.  Loved it.  The music perfectly suits the lyrics.

wicked good song... interesting as all get out and the music is sensational...
I know I have made this comp before but more now this reminds me of LRB...not so much the vocals but the music...

Real good songwriting Ray! The dark story held my attention as I wondered where it was heading. I had the same thought before I read Stephen's comparison to The Little River Band...it has that vibe to my ears. Excellent production!

Hi Ray,
This is a beautiful song, and the melody is sophisticated.
I love the guitar work the most, lovely and very hip!!!
And the bonus piano is superb.
Your vocals fit this song perfectly.
Love this!!!

Lovely, lovely playing and chord and key changes with some disturbing subject matter to boot. Really suits your vocal timbre. Wonderful arrangement as well. Mad respect here.

Wowza.

Amazing lyrics and story as usual ray. Really love your jazzy numbers, the guitar and piano are fantastic.
Your stuff always reminds me of many artists but you always have your own unique style and I love the sound of your vocals.  great performance and production.
